Its been drivin me nuts. Everyone one here labels things that they dont like as rice, and its fine if you think neon is ricey or whatever, but why do you have to say it fifty times in every post. Yea, some people may not like it, but its their car, its their choice. Some people like it; your entitled to make you own decisions about your own car, and if you happen to like altezzas or any sorta neons, who cares? Its not your car, and its not hurting anyone or anyone elses car. Sorry if I offended anyone, but everyone throws around the word "rice" way too much i think, and half the time they are just agreeing with everyone else. "ricey" things on a car in small dose dont always make them look horrible; it makes them more like the owner, and its not like neon windshild squirters will slow ur car down in a race or make you have problems parkin. I understand the fake type-r stickers and stuff cause thats just lyin, but who cares about some of the other stuff!

I hear that. I understood where some people were coming from in the backlash against "rice-iness" but after awhile I got sick of those people copping attitudes like their concept of fixing up a car is the *right* way and would presume to pick on anyone who likes things considered "ricey". Now some people give constructive criticism on why something isn't good but then there are those who just say "Oh that's 'ricey'" or act like the other person needs to justify themselves. A car's supposed to be a canvas that the owner can express themselves on.

 

its honda-<U>tech</U>. Glowing crap and neon and l.e.d. strut bars, are lame. If you want to do that to your car fine. But if you post about what color neon lighted pedal covers to get, expect to be called a riceboy.

 

Here's my defintion of rice: Super Blue lights where ever it could be put, Loud *** exhaust that doesn't do anything for the performance, ugly *** decals all over the car, and big ol spoiler that does absolutly nothing for the aerodynamics of the car. I think most of us on this board prefer cars that can perform, not cars that has super bright *** lights, and can't do a damn thing but pollute the air with it's loud *** exhaust.

Everyone in here likes to do something to amke their car look a little different from someone else. If not, they would not be visiting and posting in this forum. I persoanlly do not like lighted windshield squirters, big wings, ugly bodykits, and many other things done to cars for looks only. However, it would be pretty fuggin arrogant of me to sit here and completly try to destory the owner of the car for liking it. That is just stupid and shows that I am more childish than I want everyone to think the person asking the question is.

Everyone seems to think that they have the image of the ultimate Honda. They feel that if it does not fit their image, then it simply sucks. However, who is to say that the image you have is the right one. Who are you as to make the decision as to what should and should not be done to someone elses car. Most of the people who bitch are simply biters anyway. They here someone else say "That is rice" and then they get it in their head not to ever do that to there car. To me that is even more disgusting then a Civic w/ altezzas, ninja body kit, yellow racing stripes, Type R stickers, double decker wing, rainbow neon, 13 inch reverse daytons, and a V-TEK INSIDE sticker.

Hell, people call my car rice all of the time. A member of this board said I was rice because of my carbon fiber hood on my wanna be race car. They thought I was rice because I have a nitrous oxide systems kit on my car. They thought I wanted to be a FaSt & FurIoUs RaCer Yo! Oh well. I have had N2O for over two years now, long before F&F. My reaction, I did not give poo poo what they thought. They do not have to be seen in my rice mobile. Oh, you can see my rice mobile in my sig if you wish.

Oh, and to the people who get all mad and pissed off when someone calls their car rice. Get over it. You will always have monkey raping *** spelunkers in this world who think they are God's gift to show cars/race cars/jdm car. Ignore em.

 

well said Big James. But what i think is the worst is people whose entire post is consisting of "That's rice " or sumthin along those lines. At least you told everyone what you thought was rice, which i have to agree with. A car with only looks is not so great, but once again, only you own ur own car. You can do whatever you want to you car, and like your mother always said, "if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all." (yes, i am aware your mother probably never said that)

 

some people are all show n no go.. which i can understand.. some people dont give a crap about looks as long as their engines kinkin a$$.. then theres some people who can bust out w/a 12second show car.. to me what u do to a car is art, and people cant get critizized for art.. "rice" to me are posers, people who advertise stuff they dont got.. so as long as ur not puttin typer, sir, vtec, turbo, or whatevers out there w/out the respective juice to back it up.. then ur rice, other than that im open to whatever people wanna do to their cars

 

That sounds like a fair description of "rice" (used in the derogatory manner) to me. Personally I don't care what anyone else does with their car. If they want all show and no go, that's fine. I mean hey, speed (the "go") will get you ticketed or killed, so I understand why some people prioritize the looks. It's a "safe" mod (and makes it easier to find your car among all the Civs and Integs in the college parking lot! ) Most people wouldn't consider my car "rice", but even if they did, my license plate says RICE RQT anyways, so at least I wouldn't be trying to hide anything.

to me.. when i first got into import cars.. the meaning of rice was sticking a type-r sticker on say a 92 civic dx... i pretty much got this concept off of the website riceboy.com.... but it seems that lately rice has gotten a new identity... one with altezza... and hyper white lights (windshield washers, headlights, sidemarkers), and things that apparently does nothing to your car...

personally i don't really care what people do to their cars... i use the term rice every now and then.. when i see a red neon with a type-r sticker... and two offset yellow racing stripe down the car... but then again.. that is just my opinion..

to me.. it might not be my style.. because i like jdm... but apparently many people like all those stuff... and ricey or not.. it is their cars.. and i really don't think they should care what anybody think of it...

like the domestic cars... there are cars that are made to go.. and cars that are made for show... even cars that can do both... so it is really where the owner of the vehicle is interested in... that is just my two cents

The term has been abused, and it's over.

I learned a lesson tonight. I had been making fun of this kids Accord, because I saw it on the internet, and it looked silly... I ran into him tonight at a hang-out, and he showed it to me... it has big chrome wheels, altezza's, an air ride suspension, big system, and a custom paint job.... it's all things rice... but... tonight after I saw it... damn, that's a dope car. I mean, I'm not much for show... but this kid put in WORK to make his car look like this, and I can appreciate that.

If you have something constructive to say about someones car, that's cool... say it. If all you can do is say "That's Rice." then you're just being obnoxious.

If you look at most "asian" auto shows, alot of these high buck showcars would
fit into that catagory. I saw a "rice" car just tonight, (insert the word "tacky" or "absurd" here): a Jeep Cherokee with the purple neon undercarrage lighting.
WTF! I saw a Dodge pickup like that a few years ago at 3 in the morning. I was
running, (great time to run), and I swear his neon effects were putting out more
light than his headlights. Looked like a UFO coming over the hill. When it's a domestic, you just call it stupid or insane.

 

do what you like...your money you car.....i just dont like the kids that put anything on thier cars and think they are the !@#!.....and think they can race because they bought an intake....my 2 pennys.....

i think what he meant to say about asian car shows is that he's refferring to import car shows rather than corvette shows or mustang shows, etc.

i think the term "rice" was originally INTENDED to be a derrogatory/racial term used by domestic car owners. they're view of a rice boy was deemed as the stereotypical asian person w/ the lowered honda, etc. overtime it became not as racial anymore and ended up being used more casually (almost like the term "******") which doesn't justify anything.

bottom line rice=ugly. but this is PURE opinion, one person may think somethin is ugly/rice while another may not. for example.. the ever so famous altezza/euro lights! a lot of people here can agree that they're ugly/ricey. but the people who have them on their cars dont think so or they wouldn't be spending the 200+ bucks on them (btw i tease my friend all the time about how hes to blame for the whole altezza light craze, he was one of the first people to put real altezza lights in his 4th gen prelude back in 99, which were ordered from japan, because the is300 wasn't out yet in the states. i thought it was cool at the time

there are certain times where it CAN be appropriate i guess such as when people post "wat do you think of my car" then people will give their honest opinion. either it'd be nice or "rice".

but i have to agree the term "rice" just urks me. its such a cliche

Putting others down to make yourself feel good is a mental disorder.

This disorder can be the cause of many factors.

The first is a very small *****. These people are insecure with their ***** size, so they go around and bash and make fun of others to make themselves "bigger." This is a dillusional state of being.

Another factor is they were picked on when they were younger. So in their small little mind they have to pick on others to make themselves fit in.

Child molestation and sexual abuse can be another factor to this serious psychological disorder. They make fun of people to get their minds off of the torment that they have collected inside of the years. What they don't know is that it only builds up and by making fun of others it's just a TEMPORARY escape.

I'd advise those that feel the urgency to make fun of or label other people's preference in a derogatory term seek professional help immediately.
