Default Shitty Vacation

Well guys, this is my string of luck!!!!!

Finished putting turbo on my 90 crx with d15b2 on Thursday the 10th of March. Left on Friday for Richmond, Va from Batesville, Ar at 6:00 PM. Got there at 9:00 PM on Saturday the 12th. Woke up Sunday and went out for breakfast. Sunday the 13th was a good day. I took My Fiance shopping on Monday the 14th, another good day. Tuesday went to a shop that my buddy Ron knew about. He was going to help me tune a little bit. The problem I was having was that my wastegate was not opening and I had a bad fuel cut at 7 1/2-8 psi. Showed him what was happening. We were on Midlothian Trnpk. Got about 2 blocks from his shop, and the number one rod went through the front and back of the block. I was driving about 45 mph and I ran it up to 6 psi, a little over half throttle, the stop light in front of me turned yellow, so I let off the gas just a little bit. That is when it popped. It wasn't loud at all. I could hear **** bouncing around all under the car. And it threw oil all over the windshield. This idiot that I went to his shop to ask him for help says, "I don't think you blew the motor, I think something just popped loose." That **** was priceless. We rolled up to the stop light that had turned red. I don't want to rag on any body so we are going to stay away from that subject!!! I called Nate at Bap Geon (804-745-1700) and he ordered my rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washers, piston rings, and head gasket. My buddie Ron, that I drove 1086 miles to see, found me a complete bottom end for $50. Not to mention that it was a d16a6 block that had already been disassembled. Just one less step for me. I lucked out, the Head was O.K.!!!!!Gathered all of my parts up on Wednesday the 16th except for the block. Picked up the block on Thursday and assembled it. Friday we had to go to a monster truck show, so I was limited on my time I could work on my car. Saturday Ron and I pulled the old motor out and put the new one in. I got done with it a 6:00 PM. My Fiance wanted to atleast go out to eat before we left, so we did. Woke up on Sunday the 20th, and we left at about 9:30 AM. Got home at 4:30 AM Monday morning. My Fiance (Brooke) got a ticket on the way home on top of all that. The flex pipe on the down pipe damn near broke off, and the manifold cracked.

This is an update from when I told every one that I was putting the SSAC turbo on the car. All of the exhaust stuff is fixed thanx to H & H Mufflers. I bought a turbonetics wastegate with 7psi spring in it. I have the vaccum hose off of it run into the charge hose closer to the turbo and it runs at 5psi. I put an in line pump from Autozone, just after the filter. E2000, lifetime warranty, 96 psi shut off, 30-40 gallon per hour at wide open thottle.

Just thought I'd let you guys know!

Sucks to hear about your car blowing up.

D15b2+turbonetics wastegate+8psi+little tuning=kaboom.

Turbonetics deltagate wastegates are known to have spiking issues.

that sux about the d15b2, but i have always wondered why people bother putting turbos on that engine. i guess your story is an example of why NOT to turbo a d15b2. and i know a little about the d15b2. my daily grinder is a d15b2-equipped 90 dx hatch with 222K on the original engine.
good luck with the new setup

Well my problem was that I had a fuel cut, it held 11 psi, but the wastegate was suppossed to open at 10. That is why I was going to have that idiot try to help me. I have done all of the work on it myself, I just have a bad problem with second guessing myself. And it always helps to have other peoples opinion. The d16a6 is running good on 5 psi. First, second, and half of third are nothing but wheel spin. It's pretty nice to be rolling at 20mph in second and hammer the gas, and those tires just can't hold on. I'm worhing on a set of traction bars for it. I've got eighty bucks tied up in that. Also looking for some better tires. That pump I put in is making a big difference. When I'm building boost the Air/Fuel guage stays maxed out in the rich. More gas is better than no gas. I still have to tinker with my timing, so I can try to burn more of that gas. I have it retarded as far as the dizzy will go. I' ll try and keep every one updated on how my rex is doing.

Thanx for the imput
