Default Icon Field Armor for legs.

http://www.newenough.com/armor...e.htm

Anyone know anything about this? Is it just a gimmick (universal size)?

Seems like a perfect idea for people who don't want the power-ranger look in everyday driving, but in doing so sacrifice the safety of their knees.

I have faith in my jacket, lid, and boots, but I know I'm in trouble if I go down the wrong way in jeans. Would these be a suitable way of addressing this problem?

I don't see the point in putting them under your jeans like it says. Maybe over them.

To look semi-normal. Say if one were going to work, or a social gathering.

I'm looking into those too and the Icon Field Armor boxer thingies (?). Those look like they're gonna solve a lot of my "what/which pants am I going to wear" problems. I can be going to a formal dinner wearing slacks (hopefully I won't go down) and if I got into a spill, it'll protect me at least somewhat. But I'll mostly be wearing these under jeans. Haven't gotten them yet, but soon enough.

It looks like it'll get the job done w/o having to wear your leather pants you could just throw those under your jeans. Unfortunately, in accidents your thighs and *** can take a lot of rash. It would be good to protect your knees from impact though.

I remember someone here posted a gear thread which classified the areas of your body into zones, basically.

The most important zones to protect were the ones that take the biggest beating when you spill. Elbows, knuckles, knees, shoulders, ankles, heels.

I am less worried about a little rash than I am about breaking joints.

those are better than nothing imo. and they are worn under jeans, not over. my buddy low sided at approximately 45mph and the only part of his body that got messed up were his knees from road rash. if he had those on at the time of his crash, he would've been able to walk away without a scratch and wouldn't have had to go to the ER. makes me want to pick some up myself.

Ross, Coleman has some kneepads that are similar (though velcro attachment) for $12, I picked up a pair the other week. They are in the motocross/dirtbike section.

Is motocross designed for rash though? It would seem to me that motorcross gear is more for impact protection than sliding across pavement.

I'd seriously consider them but not sure I trust "one size fits all" gear to stay in place and be comfortable.

I've been looking into them and I think its a small investment to make. Then you can decide whether you like them or not. I personally use $40 Sport Chalet knee/shin and elbow guards for mtb'ing. But, I'm gonna get those Icons to try them out. They give you more protection on rear calves.

I am leaning towards them, but not sure if they'll rub against the tops of my booties in an uncomfortable fashion.

I am not very tall, so the distance from my boot tops to my knees isn't very much.

I don't think you can wear the knee protectors while wearing race boots.

I would think it really depends on how tight your boots are and how far they come up your calf. I don't clamp my velcro down as tight as I can on my A* because it gives me a bit better mobility to shift/brake. I would think these are thin enough to fit in there, especially for you chicken leg *****.

I'm able to wear that style kneepad with my Oxtar TCS'. Remember the boots are wider at the top so you can fit leather pants into them, so there is plenty of space when you are just wearing the protectors and jeans with the boots.

I know for a fact that the Icon's are pretty thick once you put them on. I guess like he said, it depends on your chicken legs.

Another thing I just thought of, I'm 6'1" and Ross, well, isn't . So that may be a reason why I don't have any clearance issues since my legs are longer than his.

Bingo!

Looks like I gotta go to Coleman and try something on.

Brian, what was the name of the company that makes your kneepads?

Die

Ross, I don't recall the name, but they were the $12 guards that Coleman has, they were hanging on the wall in mesh bags
