Does the speedo need power to move the gauge?

Default Does the speedo need power to move the gauge?

It's mechanical so im assuming no? 91 civic si hatchback

if no one answers ill drive my car down the block tomorrow and shut it off, and ill report my findings to you. Otherwise im a bit curious.

In all the other cars i drove the speedo stayed up when i shut it off. (at least the older ones)

NO THE SPEEDO DOSENT NEED POWER TO WORK. BUT IF U SHUT THE CAR OFF, THE TEMP AND TACH WILL SHUT OFF TOO.
