Volt meter keeps turning on by itself everytime I start the welder up.
So tonight I was out playing around welding some junk together. I kept hearing my volt meter shutting off. I was like wtf. So I bring it over and set it near where I was working and started the arc and sure enough it turned on by itself and was measuring some power.
Is this normal when using hf starting? I thought I was drunk when I kept hearing it beep when it shuts off.

Yeah it's the high frequency. Think of the small arc as a small spark transmitter (which were a real deal a LONG time ago.) I have an LCD protractor and it gets so screwed up by the welder I have to pull the batteries.
Just set your meter, and anything else that's really sensitive to EM fields, far away.
