S2000 pricing - Is this a good price?
My father really likes the s2k, wants it for a 3rd vehicle - occasional top-down rides to the beach, occasional Driver's Education events in S. Florida.
A dealer down there has a 2001 silver/black with 1441 miles on it that they took in on trade. Yes, one-thousand, four-hundred, forty-one miles. CarFax shows the car as clean.
They'll take $28,000 for it.
Good Deal?
Seems too good to me...

Really not a good driver's school car. No roof, no rollbar = bad. If you care about your pops, I'd get him into another car. Miatas are really great track cars and rollbars are easy to come by.

Thanks for the concern, really very nice. My Pops has been doing driver's ed since about 1974 with BMW and Porsche Clubs (Northern NJ and SunCoast, FL regions) - he's the one that got me into it.
A convertible is not really an ideal track car, we know, but there are several companies making supplemental roll-bars for the S2K, so he'd probably put one of those in. We hear that the S2K is very competitive, but is a bit of a handful at the limit. His brother, my uncle, is a hardcore Porsche fanatic, just bought a Boxster S (to replace his track-prepped RS America) for the Driver's ed stuff. They want to get on-track again together, since my father sold his 944 Turbo about 3 years ago...

As long as the track allows the vehicle it shouldn't be an issue. But yes that is a good price especially in your area where convertibles are easier to sell than in the Northeast. Rollbars are available for the S2000 but mostly imported. How tall is your father? That might be a factor.

Thanks for the comments - we thought 28k for a 2001 with less than 1500 miles was a steal.
He's about 5-11 or 6-0 tall. Shouldn't be a problem, I don't think.
I know the car has "roll hoops" and a reinforced windshield that must have passed some kind of DOT standard, no?

I'm 5'10" no problems so I doubt the added inch or 2 your dad has on me will be a major factor. The roll hoops on the S2000 aren't accepted at certain tracks but from reading experience from other folks that have actually rolled their car it sure has been sturdy enought to save a few lives. At 1500 miles that car is a good price, hell it's hardly even broken in. I would make sure to get an extended warranty just because you never know what schmuck had the car before and how badly they beat on it. Since you aren't even suppose to vtec a s2000 until after 600 miles.

I din't think passenger cars can really flip on their own, unless something grabs the wheels from the side like a curb. In which case they don't have to be speeding too fast.
I agree that the price is also good for that low mileage. As far as taking her on the track. Some tracks allow the car with it's factory reinforced steel roll bar, but some also require full cages, you'll have to check into particular tracks i guess. I say scoop her up while you can...
