Default My New HF

Hi all!! I just bought a 1988 Honda CRX HF for $100. It's my 2nd Honda (first was a 1988 Honda STD Hatchback) and I'm gonna go pretty wild on her. She needs new front fenders, new hood, new front and rear bumpers and a new windshield. Also, she needs a new motor. This is where my question lies. I'm thinking of going with a ZC motor, with 2 1/4 in exhaust, headers, etc. I also want to tune the motor and run a 75hp ZEX kit on it, only using the kit at the track. Where is a good place to get a ZC motor at a good price shipped to Missouri. Most places I've found are about $600 bucks at least. That is including the motor/tranny or the motor/ecu. I would prefer the motor/ecu cuz I'm running an 91 CRX Si tranny from a junkyard here. I plan on running lightweight 16x7 TSW fivestars that I paid $100 bucks for with BFG drag radials at the track, and 17X7 Focal F5's for show/street. I'm just hoping to make it faster than my AWD Talon that did 13.30s at 20psi Thanks for any info/comments!

it's money reasons exactly. With all the body work that needs to be done, the ZC swap is much more affordable for me right now.

Default D16z6

A friend just called me and told me I can get a sohc vtec motor out of a 95 EX with 108,000 miles on it. This would be the motor, tranny, ecu & wiring harness. Price is $300. Would that be the way to go?

you got a good price there on the sohc vtec.if using money wise. thats the way to go. swapping the motor in is practically easy. just to give you an idea....go turbo afterwards to add more hp.

is it hard to swap the vtec into a hf? Would I use the 95 ECU? I just don't want a big pain trying to wire up the vtec cuz I've never done it before. I agree that it's a good price. Same HP as the ZC. With the money I save on the ZC I can afford to build up the motor a little. Would a 75hp shot of ZEX be okay on the motor at the track? Like I said I plan on using an 91 CRX SI tranny.

no its not hard to swap the sohc vtec motor in the hf. you'll practically be using your stock motor mounts. my friend and i swap the sohc motor in his 90 hf and it went in smooth. you can use the 95 ECU but you have to cut and rewire alot of things. i dont have any experience with it because i may go nuts with amount of hours figuring out which wire goes with which. to go the easy way purchase a conversion harness from blown90hatch. practically it was stated plug and play. use your stock hf harness and add in his conversion harness. read this thread out
