Whats better gm synchromesh or honda mtf?
I have used honda mtf and regular 5w-30 oil. I have never really noticed much of a difference. GM synchromesh is only available at the dealer.
i used gm synchromesh to fix my 3rd gear grind on my jdm tranny, took about 500k for it to work, but i luv the stuff, works like a charm, if you have a jdm tranny i'd higly recommend it, and i believe you can get it parts store, but they use a different product number.
but yeah, you can always find the gm sychro at any gm dealer of course
good luck with yoru selection
if not go with Redline. or Motul.

lol oops. not 500k as in miles
but 500KM
lol
approximately a full tank of gas
but it differs from people. buddy put it in his CB7 with jdm motor, and it took 1500KM
but it really does work.

GM works thus its has the friction modified formula on it... but you can penzoil friction modified MTF its the same formula and a lot cheaper in the wallet....

its not an overnight cure it will eventually stop grinding... the MTF hasn't lubricated the 3rd gear just yet... i say about 1-2 weeks you will see the difference....

GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. Part #12377916 at your local GM dealership. It's the bottle shown here on the left:

Umm, no, not necessarily. If the synchronizer is bad enough, it won't do anything. This isn't some miracle oil that can fix your transmission problem - it merely covers it up for a while.
It's not guaranteed to work, so don't give people false hope that it will.

there was a large thread about it awhile back...you may want to look for that regarding opinions/success stories regarding GM Synchromesh. i used to only use honda MTF until i heard so many people had luck with the GM stuff. i tried it out, and sure enough my 3rd gear grind that used to act up so consistently faded away.
many people will tell you "theres no way fluid can fix a tranny". normally i'm one to say something like this, but until you try it for yourself, you really can't listen to this statement. either way it's about a $35 gamble -- why not try and and see if it helps. it won't damage anything...the worst that will happen is it will work as good as the honda MTF. it will mostly depend on the current condition of your tranny.

Very true, most people don't even care. I got my car from this lady, you think she cared to mantain her transmission? It probably had the factory fluid still in there when i got it. 101k miles
. Can would hardly go into 1st when the tranny was cold. Fourth gear grinded a lil bit.
But it all went away with GM synchromesh. My friend has a cavy z24 that used to pop out of 2nd gear all the time. GM solved that too. I would still like to try mtf though, just to clear my doubts.

i had honda mtf in my j1 then i tried gm friction modified.. nothing was wrong with my tranny before, but now it's smoother then i have ever felt it... this isnt hype either.. and before i was going to change my shifter bushings but now i'm too lazy and i can barely feel the slop..

Exact same results here. Except i had to buy 3 qts, lol.

sorry if i am jacking the thread... but after you put gm sychromesh in your tranny, did the shifter get stiffer and more difficult to put into gear? i test drove a car today that was awesome. the only problem with it was that it was really hard to put into gear. not really in a bad way. there didnt seem to be any problems. it just wasnt super easy to pop into gear like every other honda i've ever driven. the owner said he uses gm synchromesh and that was the reason.
any ideas what this could be otherwise? maybe an adjustment on the shifter itself? if it was due to the gm synchromesh, could i put honda mtf back in to loosen it up? would that hurt the tranny going back to honda mtf? thanks for any info

Has anyone bought GM Synchro Mesh Friction Modified part # 12377916 recently? I have called almost all the GM dealers in my area and they say that it is the old formula and the non friction modified is the new stuff. They are also telling me its very hard to find (which it is) and that I should get the other one (cylindrical bottle - non friction modified) What do you guys think? Is it true that # 12377916 is the old stuff? Thanks

Was it their additive or their own tranny fluid? If it was the fluid, what weight was it?
