I believe some people up their compression when doing an engine rebuild? I read someone using type r pistons...what are the options for me if I'm looking to increase performance a little during my rebuild?

 

P30/P72/PCT pistons as far as OEM upgrades are concerned. You could always spend the cash and get forged internals, but at the very least it's not a bad idea to invest in some ARP rod bolts.

 

Type-R pistons and a aftermarket head gasket would raise your compression. I don't know to what ratio because their is diiferent kinds of Type-r pitons. That is good if you wanna stay n/a or nos(aftermarket rings are recommended for nos)

I know that civic type r pistons in a B16A will raise compression to 12.1. Im not positive if they'll work in a B18, but ask around.

Yeah they will. The USDM ITR piston is easy to get and will work fine. The P30 or JDM ITR pistons will bump the compression a little more. It just depends what your power goals are.

 

I have read p30 pistons up your compression to like 11:1 or somthing thats what i went with for my rebuild. I got p30 pistons, OEM Rods with ARP Rod Bolts

 

i use to have just jdm itr pistons in my gsr with dc headers...
according to my friend who drove my car...he said it pulls as strong as his.

he had...I/H/E lightweight flywheel intake mani

 

the car needs more fuel with a higher compression rate right? so the ecu just automatically sends the extra fuel?

 

i rebuilt my gsr with jdm itr pistons. comp is about 11.5-11.7, somewhere in the range. i bought new seals, gaskets, oil pump, timing belt, head studs etc. i used a stock 3 layer headgasket which worked fine. i highly recommend if u use itr, ctr, b16 pistons that you use invest in a fuel pressure regulator.

 

how much extra power do you get out of the increased compression?

 

maybe 5hp if you're stock, way more if you got some big bump-sticks

 

I want to build up my teg too. I own a 95 gsr I want to set-up my car with a b16a head, CTR pistons, and skunk2 intake mani-fold. Is this a good set-up??? My goals is to beat a Type R.

 

gonna need cams. and some tuning. and maybe some head work. i mean, you could get it done w/o that stuff, but it'll be a dyno queen, and w/o tuning it'll run like crap and perform the same.
