Default Advice for Newbie Photographer

ok so my cousin just gave me her camera a month ago, ive never heard of it but it was free so i cant complain. its some kind of minolta. im trying to learn about taking good pictures, ive always used disposabals cuz they were cheap. i know nothing about photography or cameras but am very interested. what i need is advice to take good pics especially night shots. thanks

Oh and a tripod .

AFter that it comes down to finding what works with you and what turns out good; afterall practice makes you better and never perfect .
