Default shaved door handels...door opens when you push on the side mirror, possible?

basically the title of this topic is what i'm saying...i wanted to shave my door handels and not use poppers, for some reason i just don't like them...i feel that pushing on the side mirrors and rigging something up in the door to open it would be a lot cooler...anyone agree, or have ideas, seen a car with that or anything to help would be fant-fooking-tasic...

how is that a bad idea, have you heard of it being done before? i would say that's completely original and very few if no people have done it... and it would be more reliable that poppers, that's just what i think...i guess my opinion doesn't matter for my car?

Yeah that is a pretty unique idea. I would just be worried about random people accidently bumping into your mirrors in a parking lot and seeing the door go *thunk* and open for them. Yeah your opipion matters dude, but you did ask us. If you want a different way to open your door, maybe rig up a hidden button or something on the undercarriage or something. I dunno, I would never do it, but hey it is your car and really that is all that matters.

yeah i thought about that too (people bumping into the mirrors) but i am getting a viper alarm system put in that you lock the doors with the remote...i was thinking i could still lock it up and the door shouldn't open? you think that might work?

by poppers you mean the spring loaded thing right?
i have 2 friends with shaved handles and neither use the spring loaded pieces that open the door for you. the porsche opens around 1/4 the way on its own, the accord opens enough to fit your hand in the jamb and open it. if you mean no solonoid(hides inside door) then you are just doing a cheap job.
once you have a solonoid in the door you can mount the button anywhere including inside the mirror.

You would have to rid some type of pulley system up, because it would not be a straight shot at the door. But now that I think about it, if you take the mirror cover off and you move the mirrow, nothing really moves on the inside. So it might not be possible.

It would actually be pretty easy if you used a popper. Just wire the solenoid to be activated by a small momentary pin sized button. Place the button somewhere in the mirror housing. Make sure placement is hard to see, more feel...like under the top lip of the housing .

Not a bad idea, very original. I think you would wear out the mirror after a year.
Gotta get creative, i can't figure out how you would make the mirror trigger it.. (where to mount the switch/pin/whatever) there must be a place inside the mirror BUT only the power mirrors have a hole into the mirror to run the 2 wires.

I hope you know electronics well and all your options, and i hope you have some kinda alarm and a system of checks and balances so that joe shmoe can't open the car. Like making the alarm disable the unlock/pop mechanism. You would do that the same way as the alarms fuel pump kill is setup.

I was thinking a button that requires very little space like this:

Mounted something like this:

I've been toying with a similar button idea as a back up for my automatic locks after I "shave" the outside keyholes.

If you are getting an alarm, why not use the remote to pop the doors?

I have seen a Black CRX here in toronto with this exact mod., he had power locks and he had used a wire cable to pull the release on the handle when he pulled the mirrior in. worked like a charm.

You could also do what the low-riders used to do and hide a switch in the fender well. Just get a "sealed" switch from a boat supply.

I'm a little fuzzy on your ideas, are you saying push on the reflective lense or put on the mirror's housing towards the door? Also, do you want to have shaved door handles or just the key hole? If you've still got handles you could just use a solenoid to unlock the doors via the mirror, but if you dont' have handles wouldn't it require poppers? I mean how else would you open the door locked or not?

this is what i want to do...shave the handles and key holes, rig something up like how the door would open originally (lever, pulley, whatever) but with the mirror so when i push on the whole side mirror the door will open...the side mirror would act like a door handle...then have my alarm system lock and unlock my doors (which means i also need to get automatic locks instead of the manual locks)...i don't know how the **** this is going to work this is just an idea...if anyone knows how this is would work or anything like that let me know b/c this is just an idea in my head and i wanted to put it to work

just look inside your door and find a custom way to make it work- like leverage. or like it might work sort of like when u raise a basketball net. springs and a bungee-cord thats really strong. my idea might not work though. if you do go with the whole mirror idea, u might have to get a custom side mirror

u could always put it in the back of your car, my friend has it where he sticks his key in the hatch keyhole and it hits his button to open his door. But he also has poppers though

or get one of those fingerprint readers for computer security and rig it up to open with your fingerprint only. now that would be sick and slick.
