Default To use a heat shield or not?

Now before you start posting search all over the place; believe me, I searched all day looking for answers.

Well I was at work today, when it donned on me that my SRI is sucking up power robbing hot air. Not that I didnt think of it before I just accepted the fact and thought nothing more of it. Well now I want to do something about! I had a Iceman CAI to start with but made more power with it in short ram form on my Allmotor LS; and I intend to keep it that way.

So on to the subject, I want to fabricate a heat shield to block out the heat from the engine and radiator fan without sacrificing airflow. I stumbled on to a few neet ideas from bending and fabricating a metal air box/shield to carving up a rubbermade trash can for the same purpose.

Is it worth fabricating such a heat shield that will block out engine heat or at least absorb it to keep it from reaching the air filter without sacrificing airflow, which will rob power as well? Or should I just leave it at is?

What are your thoughts/suggestions?

Anyone have any better ideas?

I would not, just because I really don't think it matters. If you do so though, make sure its totally sealed off from the engine, and try to use rubber because it won't heat up as fast.

Do you have any ducting coming up from the bumper/fender area? I was thinking about doing this on my CRX; using one of the foglight holes to run a tube up right under the SRI filter. That would at least keep airflow coming in when you're moving.

this is off topic and may seem like thread jacking, but i got a question for you... in one of your other posts in a thread about IM's you said that you had to drill some holes so that you could get it to fit...well i want to know what was the IM origally made for? i have a skunk2 IM thats for a b18c5 or b16a and i have a b18b...i already paid for it and i cant return it... my problem is that i dont know if i should even risk trying to drill a new coolant port and patch the old and grind off a little lip on the coolant side.... what do you suggest?

I bought one for the B18b, but it didnt fit properly, so I had to drill the mounting holes to make it fit!

on this website they have an article that tells how to convert an ITR IM to fit a B18b! This is an oldschool trick that my friends used to do back in the day!
