Default Tapped for LS-vtec, then untapped... stay away?

I'm looking at a head right now where it was previously tapped... but has been "untapped." Should I stay away from this head or is it as good as new?

all you do when you tap it is put threads in a already existing hole..what would be unsafe about it?

Pre-GE kits, I thought they drilled out existing holes to be larger... so I didn't know how safe it was when they filled this hole back up.

The holes youre thinking of are the dowel holes. Thats not whats tapped in an ls/vtec, its only one small hole.

on the pre-ge kits, they would have to enlarge the dowel pin holes to make it work but thats the only thing.....

my gsr head was on a ls/vtec all i did was un tap the oil hole with an allen key and thats it, only problem is that i dunno what to use for the plug in the back of the head, any suggestions? weld? stock peice? ... didnt mean to hijack the thread!

I'm using a tapped-untapped head, you'll never tell the difference. You'll forget about it after a week.

i did.. lolz

as far as the dowel pins, the LS block uses the rear dowel pins and the vtec blocks use the front of the dowel pins, just use the corresponding set to make it work.

basically, all that is done when you tap a head for LSVtec(before GE) is drill the hole for the dowels to be bigger and plug up that oil hole on the vtec head.

when you untap it, all you're basically doing is take the plug back out and cover up the oil feed in the back of the head.
