Default changing Input shaft of transmission.

hey guys, I have an 88 SI trans. and I want to put on a bigger better clutch. Can I change the Input shaft my self? I have an 89 DX trans. and Im thinking if I use the 89 input shaft I can use the 89-91 Clutch and flywheel.

Anyone done this? pics? anything?

You can, its possible, but it is definitely not for a beginner. I had the same idea a while back and I was quoted $350 for the swap. I tried to do it myself, its not that hard until you have to reset all the synchros and gears. Especially since some years have only 2 shift forks and some have 3 and I dont' exactly remember which years are which. Have you considered just replacing the pp and clutch disk with aftermarket units? Check the sponsor forum and alot of them will sell pieces of the kits or whole kits for cheap. - Darrell

Save yourself ALOT of trouble and just buy the 88 to 90 upgrade kit from cluchcityonline. $200 with flywheel.

ok, so what your basicly saying is. That 88-90 upgrade is a 21 spine count clutch, but bigger?

Why don't you call them and ask? It says '88 and 90-91 flywheel so one would assume.
The common upgrade for the '88 used to a 90-91 flywheel with an accord clutch but I don't know the specifics

hmmm I dont think so, the Accord clutch has the same part number as the 88 clutch. I know because I went thru this **** a couple days ago.

But no one makes a BIG 21 spline clutch to use a 90+ flyhweel.

They specifically sell a different clutch for the 88 that requires a 90-91 flywheel as p/n 08-009.
The accord is listed as 08-008.

...so different. Call them at least.
