Default Radio lights out

My 2003 Accord EX-L's radio lights went out a week ago. Since the car now has 54,000 miles on it and the warranty is up, the dealer says that it will be at least $300 to repair. The unit has to be pulled and sent out for repair. (I hope I'll have heat.)
I've seen a couple of others with similar situation. I believe that there is a technical service bulletin on it, but I have not been able to read it. Can anyone shed some light (no pun) on this subject for me? Does anyone have any suggestions?

90% of the time that a light goes out the solution to fixing the problem is replacing the fuse.
