Quick question about Expo and camera mounts
Just got a new camcorder and was wondering if I could make a mount that attaches it to my headrest for the Expo or would it have to mount elsewhere?
TIA

I used one last year, no issues. You have to ask Jeff (Budman) or Wes for sure.
FWIW, the headrest mount videos look 10x better than the c-pillar bar setup I used at my last track day.

Excerpt from Expo 5 Rules: http://www.itrca.com/events/expo5/Expo5_Rules.php
Camera Mounts:
Camera mounts are allowed but must be approved by the instructors or organizers. A bar that mounts at the rear shoulder harness attachment points is ideal. A camera mount should not be close to either the driver or passenger, and it must hold the camera so securely that it will not come loose during adverse conditions.

What this means is a c-pillar bar with a mount should be no problem. If you use a head-rest mount, it is something that will be reviewed at the time of the expo. I've seen good and bad mounts. You should also include a 'safety' strap to the camera so that if the camera comes loose from the mount, it is still connected by the safety strap. In addition my original head-rest mounts also had a tie-down to the back seat to eliminate vibration.
That said - I now own an ioport c-pillar bar with an ioport camera mount...it's just a better deal & you're guaranteed to be able to use it at any hpde. I've never heard of any problems.

I've got some Super Clamps that I may be able to lend out during Expo. They are set up to take any camera and having a clamping force of over 100lbs. The jaw can be opened to accept objects with a diameter close to three inches and can be closed to accept objects with a diameter down to 1/2 inch. I've also got professional grade suction cup mounts, and booms. Hit me up IM style, if you need one.
