Default Help buying welder (Ever heard of "solar"?)

I found a welder for 450 bucks, but I don't know anything about welders.
I >think< the name is Solar 165 or 185. I'm kicking myself now for not writing down the damn name of the welder. He said it was made in illinios.
Anyone ever heard of Solar? Or anything similar to that? How are they on quality?

He said it can weld about anything, its(of course) a wire welder. Not sure if its mig or tig or what. I'm going to go there with my dad since he knows a little more about welding, but I figured I'd ask on here to in case he didn't know.

BTW, I'm just going to use it for bodywork and a little fabrication.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I don't want to be stuck with a junk welder.

Going with some odd brand machine may be cheaper for now, but it may also be hard to buy tips and other parts for the machine. Go with a trusted name like Hobart or Miller and you will be able to find parts anywhere...and you won't regret it.

Pinching pennies is for grocery shopping, not welding. You get what you pay for in welding. When grocery shopping, many times the big brands make the generics anyway. The closest you get to this in welding is that Miller OWNS Hobart.. You will often hear that Miller MAKES Hobart, but I havn't seen any evidence in that.
