Default Thinking of getting a bike...

What is your guys' take on a brand new Katana?... I've heard for a first bike it doesn't matter what you get, but I would like some opinions on this paticular one. I know most of you are gonna say just buy a used one cash, problem is though that I only have about $1500.00 dollars in cash so I rather finance something. So what shoud I do?...

TIA

I have no experience with the "kan-O-tuna" but a lot people suggest staying away from them. How much are you looking to spend? Is this your first bike?

Yeah it would be my first bike. Don't get me wrong I know how to ride a bike and know to have respect for it. Right now I'm borrowing my friends CBR 600 F4 and I kinda got an itch to buy one.

Then get the kanotuna.

Most likely you are going to get what you want and not listen to what others have advised you to do........even though you asked............sorry if this sounds harsh..........this question comes up a lot.

I think the Katana is the ugliest Japanese bike ever made.

I started on an 89 Ninja 500.

My advice is not to have a monthly payment on your first bike. That way you can have basic(read: cheaper) insurance. You could even get an f1 or f2 CBR for 1500.

My appologies then. Sv's can be had for close to 4k + or - (I don't know how much you want to spend). I myself think they make good beginger bikes....cuzz that's what I started on . I know a couple people that started on those bikes too, and even after their skills have been honed they still ride the same bike today. Fun little bikes.

I guess I'll be looking into those as well. I was looking at them earlier and reading up on them, the styling on them looks really good as well.

Thanx bro.

First read the sticky post in this forum about being a NOOB rider.

Second, check on insurance. Sticker shock MAY steer you away

Third, take the MSF course BEFORE buying anything

Lastly, do your homework before commiting to any bike.

Happy riding!!!

kawasaki ex500 /500R is a good first bike option that should last you well past your first season and still be under $1500. That way you can get liability only insurance, drop it a couple times and turn it over for no real loss.

Good lookin out bro. I was actually looking around last night and I think I'm just gonna wait till june or july. By that time I should have a decent amount of money to buy something pretty good. Thanx again fellas.

I would not buy anything smaller than a 600. I would never buy a katana because of the power and handling characteristics. You ride your boys F4? You will be very disappointed once you hop on the katana. You will be pissed to be stuck with a payment and a bike you are unhappy with. Buy a ZX6R, GSXR600, R6, CBR600. You will like these for a first bike and maybe keep it. It will keep up with most bikes (I mean no one will disappear out of sight I don't mean right beside them for those smart asses out there). Sure a Busa will blow your paint off at top end but who needs to run 180 mph on the street. (dumb asses!) Don't do wheelies at 100mph either. A 21 year old died in Charlotte, NC doing a wheelie down the interstate at over a hundred. i hate to hear a fellow biker fall victim to stupidity. I am not saying he was a stupid person just got caught up in the moment and made a stupid decision. I have done stupid things in my life too I have just been lucky. And given second chances. Won't see me doing it anymore, I have a daughter who needs her daddy to watch her grow up. You can still look good going the speed limit(or maybe a little over) with 2 wheels on the ground and all your boyz surrounding you on there bizikes.

Is the Katana really as bad as people say? I looked at the specs and it doesn't seem like a poor bike.
