Default failed emissions by a nose

"sorry for the crappy diagram I tried to make it as east to read as possible but I think I failed miserably"

Well I went to test the 1992 H22 lude last night and it failed on the tailpipe results. I was running 91 octane, and I had driven the car for about 20 minutes before the test. Has a year old cat on and car runs great.

Here is the results- top numbers are for 2500rpm + or - 300 rpm, bottom is for idle 775rpm + or - 425rpm.

RPM HC limit HC reading Co limit Co reading CO2 reding O2% reading
2638 220 88 1.20 0.62 14.70 3.2
700 220 376 1.20 0.01 15.20 0.0

I passed everything but the idle HC test . I did notice that the 02% reading at idle is 0 and I heard that could be bad for the test, but then I heard it also is good. But I am wondering if I just change the plugs, wires, pcv valve, and cleaned the distributor cap if that would make a difference.

Also would timing be a culprit in my tests, I haven't checked it in a while. I am trying to think of everything because I only get one free test.

Any help is appreciated.

I did search but couldn't find anyone else who only failed on this part, and passed everything else.

i would trry changing your plugs. reset the ecu and take it out for a good two hour drive with alot of stop and go and some longer higher speed pulls. then try and take it back. it could have been bad gas or any number of stupid things. i would just go back the guy and say yup i did my tune up thro it on there agian. and see if it passes

Go and get a bottle of fuel line water dryer (aka Dry Gas).

The alcohol in the gas line dryer will cause your emmisions to be reduced.

It'll work...

Where do I get this from? Is it safe for the motor?

Of course it's safe... it's gas line anti-freeze... for when you have in the gas tank and it freezes in the fuel lines...

Any auto parts store will have it.

It's usually isopropanol, but ethanol also works.

I've done this in the past with a car barely passing... and had no problems.
