Default technical valve adjustment question

I know how to do a valve adjustment, but I have a few concerns. I recently installed a new block, and put about 1000 break-in miles on it. Now Im going over everything, flushing fluids, checking tensions, etc. During my valve adjustment, I noticed that my timing belt is pretty loose, enough so that I can actually turn the crank a couple degrees before the cam gears start to move. So naturally what happens is when I try to make the cams TDC for cyl 1, the crank has turned a few degrees past the TDC mark on the lower cover. Does this matter as far as the valve adjustment goes? I dont think it does as long as the cam gears are at TDC when I make the adjustment, right? I think I can just correct the tension on the belt later.

as long as the crank is in the correct position and the cams are also then it should be fine.

well thats what Im saying...its not lining up perfectly because of the loose belt tension. I can probably play with it a bit and line both up but the belt wont be tight in either direction. I dont think it matters too much as far as the valve adjustment goes as long as the cam gears are at TDC. ehhh.

Correct - for a valve adjustment you're really just worried about the position of the cams. However, I certainly wouldn't wait very long to re-tension that belt if it is indeed as loose as you're describing.
