99 Civic Gauge cluster question???
I'm just wondering how to roll back the milage on the gauge cluster? The one I have is messed up do to taking off my indiglo gauges. The gas gauge is messed up, it keeps going down and the back up. I am going to be buying a used guage cluster off Ebay but it has 100,000 miles on it and mine has 95,xxx. Is there any way to roll it back? If so is it hard to do?

I dont have the new cluster yet. What would be easier, Swapping te speedo and odometer or turing back the milage? What are the steps to swap them?

Swapping them, not to mention rolling back is illegal, even if you're doing it becuase yours is broken, someone may not listen to that.
Swapping them isn't hard, there's just a few screws on the back and off it comes.

Come to think of it wouldnt I just swap the gas gauge from the cluster I get on Ebay to mine?

Yes, they are replaceable. You can buy just the gas guage from the dealer or http://www.slhondaparts.com. It'd probably be cheaper than getting the whole cluster.

I tried to do this for the same reason you are and I'm pretty sure it can't be done.
I just swapped in the mileage from the new cluster I bought.
You can only roll back the tenths dial anyway.

Is this it: 78130-S41-C71 METER ASSY., FUEL & TEMPERATURE $29.01?
If so that is expensive. I can get a gauge cluster for that price.

Yeah, that sounds right. I'd take that to avoid dealing with eBay (I hate getting parts from there) and getting a used and possibly busted cluster anyway.

Does that part also replace the needles? If so where are the screws to take it off? All the screws I see are the 4 screws in the front. Do I take those 4 screws off? Does the gas gauge just plug up to something on the gauge cluster?

i know internally the honda has little tabs which prevents the odometer from being rolled backwards unless you break the tabs, then everyone knows you messed with the car.
but no one says you can roll them forward, and go from 0 forward, witha dremel that turns 70,xxx rpms it doesnt take long to catch back up

I've never done it, but I know the whole unit is replaceable, you can see in the part diagram how it fits together. I'm assuming that there's just a plug in the back, or that it plugs into the board; but I don't have the helms in front of me, so I can't say for sure.

Here is a diagram of all the parts:
The gas/temp gauge is #14. Dont mind that it is automatic, on the website you can choose auto or 5-speed.
