sohc clutch and flywheel question
i have an 88 civic dx 4dr and i just installed an a6 motor. i used the tranny from a 91 civic ex 4dr. while installing the clutch, i couldnt find my spare 97 flywheel. a friend of mine had a flywheel off his 91 si. he brought it over but it needed to be resurfaced. the machine shop was closed for the weekend and i needed a car to drive to work on monday. all i had were 88 flywheels. i heard that the 88-89 flywheels were smaller than 90+ plus flywheels and that the pressure plate will not bolt up. i have a exedy clutch kit for a 90-91 civic. i got desperate and tried the 90-91 pressure plate on the 88 flywheel. i thought that it wouldnt fit but it did. i doublechecked to see if they gave me an 88 clutch kit. they didnt becus the clutch disc would not fit on my 88 crx si tranny. it fit perfect on my 91 civic ex tranny. would that mean that i have an 89 clutch kit or does it even matter as long as its not an 88 clutch kit? i have started the car but have not driven it yet becus i dont have an si throttle cable bracket and i have a fuel leak somewhere. i need to know before i find the fuel leak. thanks in advance to all.

88-89 have same size flywheels
90-91 have same size flywheels
88 uses different spline count clutch disc than 89-91..

88-89 flywheels have a smaller clutch surface area.
88-91 flywheels will bolt on to any 88-91 motor..
and maybe fallowing years to I don't know for sure

yes i know about the difference in splines and diameter. but i swear i was eyeballing the flywheels and they looked exactly the same size. i guess i will have to start it up to find out.
Its the contact surface that should be a different size.. If the outer size of the flywheel was different then they would need different starters..
yeah, the diameter of the contact area. thats what i meant. still they looked the same to me.i have started the car but have not driven it yet. no luck with the fuel leak so far.
