Default bad sounding idle

The idle of my car is pretty crappy sounding. It sounds like ticking or something, its hard to describe. I recently did a bunch of maintainece on it, but I still have left to do the spark plugs. Another thing that my helms manual says to do is to valve work, its a bit over due also. Could eather of these things be the problem, or would it be something else?

honda valvetrain is a common noise on higher mileage engines. it's not a big deal, but you should look into getting the clearances back down to where they need to be. if you do that and you've still got noise... sometimes fuel injectors make slight ticking noises.

Yup, valve clearance, get it checked. I'm also overdue for this service and that ticking from under the valve cover is starting to get to me. guess I'll wait till its a little warmer to do it.

If I brought the car into a respected shop, how much would it cost to get the valve clearance checked up?

Thanks for the interest.
