Default Suggestion on I/H/E setup

I am thinking about the following set up for my ITR as its 1st year birthday (1/22)gift

Spoon N1 Muffler
AEM CAI
JDM header with carsound cat

I am not going to heavily mod my ITR, no turbo, no supercharge, pretty much that's it as far as engine mod.

Here is my questions:
-What do you think?
-How many horsepower could I gain from this setup?
-How useful is a Dyno to get the most for my investment?
-Will I pass the emission test?
-Will I have a check engine light?

P.S. I have already did a search, but have trouble understanding some of the technical jargon (OBDII, O2 sensor, etc). Sorry for being ignorant

Thanks for your help

Don't waste the money on the muffler.

My guess is you'd gain between 9-12 whp with the mods listed.

Unless you have some method of management such as a V-afc, you will be restricted from extracting maximum gains from your mods on a dyno, and smoothing out the power. However, you could do a baseline run which is always nice to have for comparison for future.

Yes, you should pass emissions.

No, you shouldn't have a CEL.

It's just my opinion: I would get the Comptech Icebox/Intake instead of the AEM CAI.

the intake and header combo is a good investment but the exhuast isnt. the exhuast would be more for sound or looks. at most you will probally gain 1-2 hp off the exhuast. with the header/intake combo you could gain 9-12 and with a v-afc you could add another 4-8? hp.

Here is my questions:
-What do you think? look above
-How many horsepower could I gain from this setup? 9-12
-How useful is a Dyno to get the most for my investment? not useful at all, unless if you get a v-afc then its worth it.
-Will I pass the emission test? yes
-Will I have a check engine light? no

I live in Seattle (lots of rain), do you think the AEM CAI could be a problem? Do that by-pass valve really works? How about the rubbing problem?

If hydrolock is a concern, don't bother with the AEM. It's really that simple. Most, if not all AEM intakes for the Type R will rub on the a/c lines...

It probably WILL be a problem since it rains there so much. Stick with the icebox since your in Seattle. You shouldn't have a problem with rubbing with the AEM if you install it correctly. Good choice on mods.

snowman - run comptech over AEM. I wouldn't run AEM in Seattle, unless it's during the summer months. Actually, if you get a gen2 AEM (2 piece design), then you can go from a short-ram to cold-air setup between the rainy season and the sunny one.

I would go with the AEM CAI unless hydrolock (which you live in Seattle, right>?) would be a concern. I put a K&N filter on mine...cut up the factory resonator box and it's a poor man's CAI.

The header and cat are well worth it, for the intake just get the K&N , and keep your stock intake. works fine.

if you see a puddle, throw it in neutural or something.

but i would rather have the comptech.. i think thats what i'm getting sooner or later

Since you are only going as far as I/H/E for your R engine wise, why not save up and get the best? In that case, I would go with an AEM Intake, Hi-Tech Header and catback... With that and tuning you are looking at high 180s to low low 190s

That depends on his baseline...

Jason- who doesn't believe that figure is possible with just I/H/E on a stock C5

I didn't think it was possible either, until a friend hit 188 with that setup... But you are right, it also depends on his baseline.

Like has been stated I would forego the muffler. You should use that money for cams (10-15hp instead of 2-3 for little more$). You deninitely want a v-afc.

Are you that Jonas who used to live close to UW?

BTW, where is the best place (site) for me to get the Comptech Icebox? Is the Icebox just the filter or the whole thing (Intake, tube, etc)?

Good choices, but maybe you might wanna get a SPOON or TODA header incase you may want to do more heavy mods in the future. Mugen Twin-loop exhaust is also a good choice as well if you would consider it?

Are you kidding? If you are only getting 170 to the wheels with bolt ons.. Maybe you should find another car.

I- Comptech "icebox'
H- Spoon 4-2-1 header
- Carsound Cat
E- Stock

It works for me!

A.

PS I listened today as the detailing shop guy drove mine in. Stock catback mated to the aforementioned mods sounds Nice ! Plus it isn't annoyingly loud. It has a nice low burble, subdued but I heard it...
