IAC Valve!!
My friend is buying a hatch with a b17 in it. the motor is fine its just that the car needs a new IAC valve. I dont know anyone who knows what it is i need to know what it is, if its a lot of trouble to fix, and if it is expensive to fix.
they are about 150-180 from the dealer if you have a friend that can hook you up. i dont know of any fixes if the valve has failed though. i have just always replaced them because cleaning them doesnt always fix them.

it basicly tells the car what to idle at like if you have your headlights on its gonna idle higher of if your car is cold its gonna idle higher. its on the intake manifold and has 2 coolant lines and a plug. i tried cleaning mine and didnt help a bit. i paid a little over 180 for a new one from honda. try http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

This is similar to what it looks like...I am not sure where it mounts on the B17 although I would assume it would be on the backside of the intake manifold. The price on d-a-p.com is 90.00 used....although I am sure if you ran through the classifieds and started looking around and asking if anyone has one you might get one for cheaper. BTW....IAC is "Idle Air Control Valve"

This is a part you definitely don't want to buy used IMO. But I'm also the guy who bought a brand new knock, ECT, ECT guage sending unit, and VTEC pressure switch when I did the motor swap. The used ones off the motor are only backups. You could "save" 40 bucks by buying a used one, but who knows if it will work. If this is the case you wasted about $140 cause if your smart you wouldn't buy another used one, you would just go new. Again this is all IMO.

take it off, spray, let it dry, run water through it, spray again, lrunw ater through it, then let it air dry and put it back on, let it idle for about 10 minutes, then driveit up an ddownt he road and see how it idles.
