Does anyone know what that thing on the trunk lids of some race cars is?
I wasn't sure what to post this question under since I'm not sure what it is.. but, I've seen on the trunk lids of pro race modded Skylines and Supras (probably others too) this odd pair of holes in the center. Does anyone know what that is? It looks like an exhaust outlet but I don't see why they'd route the exhaust out the trunk lid. I doubt it's a gas lid since, why would there be 2 holes. If it's a defuser/diffuser, why would it be on the trunk, and it wouldn't do much good with just 2 holes. I'm inclined to think it might just be some decoration, but race cars don't usually have useless trunk ornamentation. So what is this darn thing?? It looks cool but I wanna know what it is! Does anyone know where I can get one?

Umm...are you talking about the twin, dry-break fuel filler receptacle which lead to the racing fuel cell? They are designed to not leak when connecting and disconnecting a fueling adapter to the filler receptacle. Here's ATL page on the receptacles and refueling equipment: fueling accesories....hope you have about $600 saved up....just for a dual break receptacle, if you want to make it functional you will need to have a racing fuel cell ($400-$800), Fuel cell accessories (Fuel pump, lines, etc...), and refueling equipment - we're talking thousands ($2K to $10k) on an entire dry-break fuel system here.

You want one, but have no clue what it is. I see. Hmm.
If you go to http://www.visracing.com and look at the aerokits for the prelude, you will find one. It is on a yellow prelude. Is that what you are talking about?
Anyway, if you just want the look of it, you can buy fake ones. Just look around the internet. I am sure you can find it.

If they are not dry breaks they could be vents or drains incase the car gets upside down and has raw fuel or oil in it. Our ITS cars are required to have drains in the floor and having one in the top and trunk isnt a bad idea.
OK, I know this is not the best picture in the world. Hell it is actually decals for a model car. But look at the rear shot. The thing on the trunk that is in the middle. It looks like two holes side by side.

Here is a real pic of a car with them. They have the flap up though.

Yeah that's it. Thanks for the info. I was hella wondering what that thing was. Since I didn't know what it is, that's why I'm here asking about it in the hopes I could either make use of it, or if it's something specific and usable only to those race cars, to convert it into something I can use.
fuel door as far as i know. there are tone holes in there. one to let air out and the other ot let fuel in. thats my guess
