Does anyone know what that thing is on the back of race-modded Skylines/Supras?
I've seen on the trunk lids of pro race modded Skylines and Supras (probably others too) this odd pair of holes in the center. Does anyone know what that is? It looks like an exhaust outlet but I don't see why they'd route the exhaust out the trunk. I doubt it's a gas lid since, why would there be 2 holes. If it's a defuser/diffuser, why would it be on the trunk, and it wouldn't do much good with just 2 holes. I'm inclined to think it's just decoration, but race cars don't usually have useless trunk ornamentation. So what is this darn thing?? It looks cool but I wanna know what it is! Does anyone know where I can get one?

yea wanting something cause it looks cool bu thave no clue as to it's functionality... "Your world home's i'm only livin' in it" I would tend to think they are exhausts, why route throug trunk, yea, no clue. (did you see this in grand turismo or something) i'm mostly likly wrong but i like to sahre my thoughts..
You may go ahead and call me the "R word" if you like. My license plate is RICE RQT
Not that I need to explain or justify myself, but yes I would consider getting something just for the looks of it. (ie I wouldn't say my CF dash is doing anything other than look pretty) And you can call it "rice" in a derogatory manner if you like, but if you've ever considered getting a body kit or paint job or anything else that doesn't strictly contribute to some form of "performance" or "functionality", then it's awfully hypocritical to pick on someone else who expresses a curiosity about something they've seen and like the look of.

Btw, if it's on the trunk it is a direct port for the fuel cell. I doubt they'd be speed holes...if speed holes really worked all sorts of race cars would have them, I can't think of any pro Japanese circuit cars that have them.

wtf is with some of the hairbrained schemes in this forum?
its a quick-fill gas thing....there is two because there are two cells holding the fuel.

The second hole is to catch overflow and provide venting/suction. This does two things, 1. Keeps fuel from hitting the ground. Some venues of racing will actually fine the teams for spilling fuel. Also it is a big fire hazard to have fuel running down the back of the car by the exhaust. 2. The cap has spring loaded valves that when the hose is pushed in, it opens the lid on the fuel cell, turns the hose on, and opens the vent. Without the vent/suction the fueling would take quite awhile, also having all of that high octane vapor around is without a vent hose is really asking for an explosion!

Yet, absolutely NONE of that is remotely useful on a street car. That's pretty tacky to me.
Thank you matthewk! Finally, someone providing an intelligent and courteous response to a simple question!
