Default Speedometer works part-time...

My speedometer jumps straight to 20mph when i turn my keys over. It will stay there slightly shaking and sometimes will jump to the correct speed for a matter of several minutes. I had read that this is my speed sensor and so I swapped it out and nothing changed. I then got the idea to disconnect the wire harness from the sensor for s&g's and when I started the car the same thing happened. So without the speed sensor even connected it still jumps up to 20mph and this is without starting the car i will add, just turning the ignition on. Can anyone give me something else to xshoot before i spend big bucks with a mechanic?

Have you ever taken the guage cluster out and played with the needles? I made that mistake and mine did the same thing... i had to keep removing the needles and trying to guess as to which position the correct one was for the needle.... If that isn't your case i would say you have a messed up cluster and should just spend the $100 on a used one...

I had the same problem where I would turn the car on and the speedometer would read
20 mph. I would run it and it would jump to the correct speed after a couple of minutes. I turn the car off and it the needle would remain and 20 mph. I had installed indiglo lights. I went to a junk yard and bought a used cluster and everything works fine.

Has anyone changed out there speedometer and it still does't work? Could i be the sensor? If so does any one know where it's located on a 95 accord ex also how much which is always the biggest question. Thanks in advance for replying.

i kinda did a lil playin around, i would turn the key onto "ON" and turn it back off and do this 5 times or so. Then the needle drops from 20 to zero and then i start the car, and the speedometer works fine......
