Idle Question (searched)
My car is idling fine when at a stand still, but recently the revs have been dropping really low- sometimes to near stalling- after letting the car out of gear. Basically, if I just rev the car up in nuetral the revs go down really low afterwards and then resettle back to normal. Wondering if any one knows what this might be. Thanks.
You didn't recently replace you distributor with an aftermarket one, did you?
Otherwise:
- Cap / Rotor / Plugs / Wires
- Fuel Pressure (Change the fuel filter)
- EGR valve (clean the crap out of it... carb cleaner / wire brush)
- Clogged CAT or exhaust obstruction.

No, it's an OEM distrubutor. However, today I went ahead and changed the sparks, the cap, the rotor and the fuel filter and the car is still doing the weird idle thing. Besides the EGR valve, could it be anything else? Where is the EGR valve located btw. Thanks.
Haven't checked the EGR valve yet, but I noticed it only does this when the car is fully warmed up... don't know if this little bit of information sheds anymore light on what the situation might be. Thanks again for any help.

Well I still haven't had any luck. I reset the ECU today and the problem has actually gotten worse--not stalling, though. I have noticed that the idle is a little low even when at rest. I know I need to adjust this via the adjustment screw, but I was wondering what exactly I need to do.
I have read some posts while searching about needing to unplug the IACV and having to reflash the ECU. Is this right? If I need to unplug the IACV, where do I unplug it from? Thanks for any more information.

i am having this same sort of prob....try adjusting the idle air mixtur screw above the tb and if that doesnt work i suggest getting some carb cleaner bc itsounds like your not getting enough air. if was your spark you would be having probs in other areas also...imo

I just recently had my engine rebuilt and my engine does the same thing.
It did it before AND after the rebuild.
It would idle at 750 but if i hit the gas a little and then let go, it dips to ~400-500 rpm's and then goes back up to 750.
No idea why

Well it looks like there are three of us in this same thread who are having the same problem. First one to find a fix don't forget to post. I'm going to check out the EGR today or tomorrow.

It's normal for the revs to fall a little if you lightly tap the gas.

I have this same issue. It gets worse when I'm using things like the headlights, stereo, etc. I adjusted my idle screw so it should idle at 1000rpms, but sometimes it still falls a lot, before I adjusted my idle screw higher it would stall sometimes. I honestly think its my alternator but I'm not sure.
When you turn the headlights on, your idle RPM is actually supposed to raise by 100 (according to Helms manual), but mine lowers instead. Shitty.

I think me and you must actually be having the exact same problem as I actually noticed mine doing that stuff today as well-- as far as the windows and stereo etc. go. I have also noticed that the idle bounces up and down when I turn the steering wheel, which is kind of weird. This whole idle thing is really getting annoying. I may just bite the bullet and take it in for a diagnostic soon.
Also, what did you use to turn that idle screw? I've tried a number of flat head screw drives and they're all to wide for that little slit.

My car does the same thing, especially if I was giving it hell and then take it out of gear. I have checked pretty much everything I could think of and so I'm not worried about it, it only does it every now and then when taking it out of gear coming up to a stop light or something.

Yea, you have to use a smaller flat head, i used one out of a computer tool kit. I talked to a honda tech the other day and he said it is definitely the idle control valve, and that you probably just neeed to take it off and clean it, he says it controls the idle based on an electrical load sensor from the ecu and if the valve is dirty it will get stuck closed, causing a bad idle.

That's odd. I thought because the accessories were affecting the idle pretty much ruled out the IACV. If you happen to clean it out and you have any luck with it keep me posted. I have heard of some people cleaning this thing and then their idle probems get worse.

I have done a little bit more research on the problems with the IACV and it seems like it is probably the IACV as the idle fulctuates, and is lower, when under electrical load and while turning the steering wheel. My question is: will cleaning the IACV solve this problem, or will I just need to obtain another IACV?
Third, if anyone has an extra working IACV... let me know.
