Default They Stole My ECU(grim)

Nice people came, and stole my engine computer. I have a 95 GSR. I dont know what information was on the exterior of the ECU. I wasn't able to tell the cops much. I can call in and ammend the report. This is my only car, and Im stuck till its replaced. Anybody know the cheapest best way to do this. What ECU should I look for ? Are there aftermarket replacements that are comparable in cost? Just asking for basic pointers to get started. Thanks

Chip it? Do I buy it used? Would this give me what I had, or would this be an improvement ? What are some common prices? Thanks for the response.

Your car is OBD1 so chipping is easily done. You can get a much leaner fuel curve for increased power if you chip it.

So another p72, or p28 would work with no problems? I just have to get it running, and Ill worry about the chip later($). I couldnt even drive, and buy beer to help me deal with my grief. Thanks

they can easily find out what year and model your car is from the VIN on the dash.

IMHO buy another Virgin P72 obd1 and when you get the chance chip it. P28s are cheap but the majority of them have crappy chips that I doubt you want to run on everyday.

Roger that. Not many Integras in this town, and I think Ive seen the guy who probably had something to do with this theft. This totally tricked out body kit paintjob wigger cruise machine that barely ran. He must of had one of those chips. About to place an order on Ebay. Very useful info, I hope Ill have something to contribute here someday.
Thanks again.

I would just get a stock, non-chipped P72 OBD-1 GSR ECU. They are hard to find though because they are only from 1994-1995 GSRs. The car I bought was missing the ECU because it was broken into.

Your cheapest bet is to buy a used one off a member of Honda-Tech. I just got one for $210 shipped. The ones on Ebay that I see are all chipped and have "skunk2" and "mugen" programs.

F*ck ebay....all those fools posting "mugen chipped p30/p72/p28 ecu" are people who are actually selling reprogrammed civic dx/cx p06 ecu's with some programs that half of the time dont work! Believe me, I hear a lot of people who tell me they just got BURNED $200 on a ecu that doesnt work right and isnt what was advertised!

As for your options, you can basically run any obd1 ecu as of right now. 1992-1995 civic/integra share the same obd1 ecu plugs. The ideal ecu you would want is the original one that came out of your car. The code should read 37820-p72-A00 (or A01/A02). This ecu only came out of the 1994-1995 integra gsr's. Other ecu's that will work are; 1992-1993 GSR p61 ecu, 1994-1995 Del Sol DOHC VTEC p30 ecu, 1992-1995 chipped obd 1 p28/p08 ecu, h22a p13 obd1 ecu, or the reprogrammed p06/p05 ecu to dohc vtec specs. Almost all of these ecus except the original gsr and h22a, will NOT control the iabs in your stock intake manifold. The cheapest route to go is to first do a search in the classifieds for the p72 (saw about 4 of them in the classifieds just last night)....then your next shot would be to find a chipped/reprogrammed ecu to dohc vtec specs.
