Grinding sound at first stop on 03 EX
I have an 03 EX that I just got (20,000 Miles) after its been sitting awhile, when I go to make my first stop, (First braking after sitting awhile) it sounds like gravel under my tires, after the first stop, all is fine, like the brakes need to heat up or something. Any help?
Most likely you are simply having a normal condition of surface rust on the rotors. It is very common in more humid climates to get some surface rust on the rotors when it sits for awhile. Then when you hit the brakes the first couple of times the pads scrape the rust off and it makes a horrible grinding sort of noise and is fine. You can look at your rotors through the wheels most times and see the rust on them. As long as it doesn't keep doing it you should be fine.
Maybe I should clarify, this happens dailey, like tonight, I went to class, two hours later it did it. I took a look at the pads, still nice and thick, Im gonna drop it off to the dealer this weekend.
It's not the pads you need to look at, the next time you leave it parked look at the rotors and se if they have a coat of surface rust on them before you drive the car. If they do you should hear the noise when you drive off. It seems to happen alot on the 7th gen accords. I don't know what the climate is like where you're at as far as humidity but here in western Washington state I know people that say it usually happens to them in the morning and often times when they leave work. Just trying to save you a "could not duplicate at this time" trip to the dealership. And just to clarify, if conditions are right it only takes a couple of hours to get a nice coat of rust going.
Edit: And yes this is something I hear alot because I work service in a dealership.

Cant be rust, Im in Arizona, our humidity is next to nothing, I can leave bare metal out in the yard and it wont rust until it rains, which is never
What about air in the lines? Could it be that after my first stop, the pressure builds back up?

If it's short quick grind, it may be ABS recalibration, which happens everytime you start your car after it's been sitting a bit. I feel it on my gas pedal, though I guess it's technically possible to feel it on your brake pedal.
