not really hard, but I'm above average in the backyard techniques needed.
I figured most out by watching the ZC/Si FD swap as listed on Honda Hybrid page. Just need a Helms and a few simple low buck tools.

i'd give it a 7 out of 10 on a scale from easy to hard. with a helms manual it can got a lot easier...
if you want a quick fix, buy a used one.

d series tranny's are so plentiful and can be had for so little money, its not really worth it IMO...unless you're just messin around and wanna learn something, but otherwise....
