Pulsing Idle After I.M. Install
Hey what's up I need help asap,
yesterday my friends installed an aebs i.m. on my car. There was a new i.m. gasket used, and a reused t.b. gasket accompanied by some Honda-bond. I have a usdm B16a2 with stock t.b., everything seem to go on tight and smooth, but once the installation was complete the car began a pulsing idle from 1500-3000 approximately. Would the hoses we used to block of other connections cause this leak? Or is it not mating perfectly with the head?
We believe there is a leak some where, but not surewhere. I search on H-T yesterday night and found a few things, but the search function is down now. Has anyone had a similar experience like this, is this a common problem that occurs, is there a simple solution we have over looked??
Anything helps....thanks in advance

it's either a vacuum leak, faulty IACV, or you have air in your cooling system.
For vacuum leaks, make sure the idle screw is screwed all the way in. That can be a vacuum leak. Check all hoses.
Make sure the IACV is functioning correctly.
I had this same problem and chased all kinds of hoses and such thinking it was a vacuum leak. Once I bled my cooling system it went away. If you don't have a bleeder for your cooling system here's how you bleed it. With the engine cold, take off the radiator cap, start the car and let it run for at least 20-25 minutes. And some coolant will flow out so it might be a good idea NOT to have the radiator topped off.

An quick and easy (and safe) way to check for leaks around your IM is to spray WD-40 on the suspected areas. If there's a leak then vacuum will suck in the WD-40 and the engine will "stumble" a little bit.
What happened is that you did not remove every trace of the old Intake gasket that stuck too your head. You have to remove everything. Even around the studs. I bet this is the problem.
I always use the rule if it did not do it before It is something you did.

i just let the car idle with the radiator cap off, I then added some coolant once it started to bubble. I turned the car off, and added some more coolant into the reservoir, until it was full. I then let the car warm up completely. The pulsing continued, except now its about 500 rpm lower. I took the car for a 20 min drive, it pulled a little better than yesterday, but the pulsing continues.
Any other ideas???

you did it wrong it sounds like. Take the cap off the radiator, not the reservoir. Start the car up and let it run for AT LEAST 20 minutes. It should be bubbling the whole time and because of the expansion it may bubble some out of the radiator which is ok. I use a turkey baster to suck out the coolant before it bubbles over. I would try it again. I had to bleed my coolant twice before it went away.

I have never had such a problem. I don't know how you guys put coolant in wrong. The radiator is the highest point so all the air should come out when you fill it. Then when the car comes up to running temp the thermo will open, the coolant level will drop and then you add more. Good Luck!!
^^thats what I did^^ maybe I explained it wrong??
But I think I found the source of the problem.... there is a brace under the factory manifold that has to be removed for the AEBS manifold to mount flush against the head. If not it will cause a small leak at the lower flanges of the manifold, resulting in a power loss, along with the pulsing idle. I received this info from another Si owner that experienced a similar issue. This weekend my boy should be able to help me with this, to see if this will remedy the problem.
