Default Usdm h22 or Jdm h22 preferred?

93lude vtec; it has 200k miles on it and it runs like shiet whiches it can barely beat a 96 civic coupe stock. Has couple of oil leaks in several areas mostly from the bottom bay.

Should i rebuilt this sorry piece of shiety..or find a jdm h22?? OOh and does mostly jdm h22 complete comes with lsd already?? thanks

Well if you are gonna leave the internals stock then the JDM one would be better seeing as how the comp is a little higher and has a little more power then the USDM one.

But if I were you I would rebuild what you got. Get it sleeved and drop in some low or high comp pistons (depending if you want turbo or NA) and build that sucker up.

i would have to agree knowing that the JDM h22 probaly have a compression rate of 11.1 ..higher compression with turbo doesn't go together rebuilding your stock motor would make more sense

The JDM H22A has a comp ratio of 10.6:1. The Type S on the other hand has a comp ratio of 11:1.

By the way, i'd save your money and rebuild your USDM motor.

gosh..so some people would prefer on rebuild usdm huh. Well in the other hand i wasnt planing to go turbo anytime soon. I lived in california and if i swapped a jdm, does anyone know if it runs the same and would pass smog? I'd swapped a zc sohc on a crx before and it didnt pass smog. I dont ever want that to happen again with the prelude also.

I called this asian shop "honda and acura specialist" for a quote to rebuilt the motor and they want $2,950 with all honda parts..is this a good deal or they're tryin make'em bucks? Thanks

no that is a big *** rip off. especially if you are going to pull the engine yourself. you could do the work yourself for a lot cheaper, or pm me and we can discuss what you want and how much i would do it for.

thats kind of dirty though, it would suck to be on the other end...

ga may be far, but i could most likely rebuild it and include shipping for like half your quote or less....besides we send blocks to cali all the time...

ask them to brake down what all they would be replacing...are you comfortable w/pulling/putting head on block? would cut down on shipping a lot, and u can get a valve job local for cheap im sure

only a stupid idiot would do that. if you are serious about getting lsd then just part out your engine and start over with a used JDM engine since you don't have plans for turbo anytime soon. i'm pretty sure lsd is an additional $300 when purchasing engine, tranny, ecu combination some places. if you don't care that much about lsd then have fastlude rebuild your existing engine i guess

I do not know much about H22a or the JDM H22... Not sure what exactly your goal is with yours, but a friend around town is making about 350 with a turbo'd JDM H22. Again, I do not know how much difference it would be. But just some numbers from his dyno and a little info on the engine. Personally, i would buy the JDM H22 engine and call it a day... hth

yea sometimes h22 is a bitch in some major repair..i'm already seeing moisture oils around the bottom of dust cover where the pulley is. It seems by the oil pump or sumin..but when i saw that crack..i was like.. fu.. that i'm gettin rid of it.

So your block is cracked? I would personally keep the USDM h22 reason being is the 93 Prelude with VTEC has a closed deck engine which great for NA/Turbo. But if it is cracked I would part that sucker out and get a JDM h22.

ha i didn't mean i saw a crack on the block..i mean by seeing that crack as seeing that mess... Yea it could possibly be a cracked block where i can't see it. When i first had this prelude..it has 185k mileages. It was leaking from all over the bottom places (too much to list) .. when parked for 3 hours, it made a puddle of oils on the ground. Took it to this asian shop to fix that, they repair the drain bolts which the thread was stripped where the bolt can't tighten up, repaired the gasket housing of oil filter. Mechanic charged me $450 for that repair..i think i got rip off pretty bad..and he was a viet mechanic..and it still has several leaks in some places i dont even know exact where. I had learned my lesson not to take it to a viet shop.. they did me dirty rip off..

I had the same decision to make with my prelude. I have 184,000 miles on my 93 VTEC and the timing belt ended up going on me ripping apart the vales and what not. I didnt know whether i should go ahead and scrap the motor for a JDM or just say F it and go rebuilt.

Well.. i ended up going rebuilt and ecided to get a shitload of work done to it too. I got the bottom end as built up as possible for a N/A motor. Check out the link below for all the mods i made. I'll be getting my car back tomorrow afternoon so i'll let u know how it rides. The compression is actually 11.5:1 not 11:1.

i will admit i spent a lot of money on this build up. parts alone and machine work were the cost of a jdm used engine. thats not including the cost of the entire rebuild, clutch setup, removal and install of the engine which i didnt have time to do myself. :/

so u say rebuilt is better huh.. i think i can't picture my usdm motor rebuild since i see all kinds of problems occurring..and what else.?? Ooh yea lastnight an old skool as car..i dont know what it was exaclty but i think it's a chevy car and wanting to run me while i was driving on the highway..so i gas him on 4th geared and that piece of crappy pull away in front of me like 7 car lane..After that..i felt like my prelude was a piece of crap..i'd say F it.. F... honda, get a M3.

your talking to a guy with that had a block with 184,000 miles on it and was blowing smoke like a chimney. I got it sleeved and rebuilt with all the little parts i wanted and now i have a motor that should be ready for another 200,000 miles. if not, i'll be upgrading it as i go along just to make it even more badass.

you know where ur motor has been, u dont want to end up dropping a shitload on a motor that could have been beaten to death and **** out on u a year from now.

and plus... why drop a few grand on a motor u already have? take that loot and setup ur block with some nice parts.
