Default Axles - Base vs. SH

what is the difference between them? i installed a drivers side base axle into my SH (with H23 intermediate shaft / base engine) and now if i cut corners hard i get a jittering. i even had one clunk noise can it be the axle?

Isn't the h23 intermediate shaft longer than the h22 intermediate shaft. Say that again. Night shift !!!

it shouldnt be.

this problem would be (if leingth is the issue (i swear she said it was fine!!!!) that the axle is too short. from the feel of it its only milimeters if it is off.

Isn't the width of the 4th gen wider than the 5th gen. If I am not mistaken it's about .5 inches wider. Therefore it makes the h23 shaft longer than the h22 shaft. I could be wrong.....If I am, sorry for wasting your time and giving you the wrong info. But It doesn't hurt to check......

we are NOT talking about the shaft being too wide, but rather the axle being too short.the h23 intermediate shaft is fine. everything was perfect with the SH axles, but now under turning with a BASE axle i get a jittering feeling at times.

You probably know this, but they are different part numbers for the base & SH driveshafts.

That said, the few people I've found talking about it implied that there was no difference, and they were interchangeable . . . . **shrug**

I guess I have no proof but I am 100% certain that they are not the same. This question has came up before shakes, and they found them to be like 3mm short or something and one guys even popped out and caused one wheel not to get power at all.

Get the SH axle.

yeah, when we called ARI to get the shaft they said they were different. i went with the base due to having a base engine / tranny. i guess its the difference in the knuckle rather then the half shaft vs atts unit.

Wow man... wow. Check out your lower control fork or whatever, I hit a curb in my SH and it made it rumble and bumble like crazy... brain fart on the actual name of the part. Lower Control Arm? I don't know I've been up 27 hours straight now.

that thing is ok. everything is solid, i just dont get it.

anyhow, my firend owns the shop that got me the axel so he talked to the people that made it / procured it from another shource, and they are going to rebuild my original axel and trade back for the other one. if its fixed then, then ARI axels just suck. if not then im going to be rather pissed off.

im still going strong thankfully. had a lot of cravings though. i just keep reminding myself of how much i spent on smoking.

back on topic though, i think that the knuckle is different. i described it as feeling like ABS was kicking in when i turned. the other day i hit the brakes in the rain (nobody around) and the passenger side went into abs, the drivers side did not.

i should have my other axle back soon though.
