Default Interested in buying a Prelude.

I am considering buying a new Prelude in the near future. I would like to know what you guys consider to be the best year and trim level. I will probably just do basic bolt-ons. I am looking to spend 10k at the most.

Any help would be appreciated.

97-01's are pretty much all the same. Get the SH if your going to do some serious cornering. Otherwise, it doesn't give you any benefits. With 10k your probably gonna be a pre 00 one.

Whatever you do, stay away from the auto. They tend to blow up.

4th gen (92-96) Prelude VTEC will give the best results with just bolt-ons. 95 and under are OBD1 which is much easier to modify successfully.

I may be a newbie here, and I don't even currently own a Honda. But something smells fishy here...

Auto sucks period. Honda autos suck, even on 4th gens. The 4th gen auto I test drove took FOREVER to shift.

Besides, manual is SO much more fun to drive.

Time for Grandpa's 2 cents--MY SS is FOR SALE and is a joy to drive. The SS mode is very responsive. Look for a car (preferrably mine) that has not been driven hard and in a lot of bad waether. Road miles do not hurt cars. Make sure it has a clean history that is documented (all of the paperwork if possible). If buying from a private owner-you will want to try to find a car with the remainder of a real Honda Care Warranty.
I travelled to Charlotte to buy our CRX because it was at a dealership and a 1 owner car. We actually spoke with the original owner and have the papers he left in the car.

If you want to chat-drop an e-mail.

So Honda owners are actually admitting that some Honda's exist with problems? Well, I can say that a friend of mine has a 2002 Honda Accord, and is on his third auto tranny. I thought his car was an aberration, but maybe not. Hey, I drive Isuzus and Honda owners always dog Isuzu 'cause of the Passport. So what do I know?...

Hondas have tons of problems. Most of them stem from them being FWD. The reason why you hear less problems from the honda camp is that our cars aren't as shitty as most others...

Except our auto trannies, which suck.

I haven't had any problems except one with my 1998 Prelude Type SH, Ive put more than 40,000 hard and abusive miles and still runs very strong and great. My moms 89 Integra LS 5spd has over 250,000 miles and still original motor and trans and still no problems with it either. Lots of my family and friends own Hondas or Acuras and I haven't heard anything but good stuff from them.

We also own a 1990 Honda lawn mower that we bought brand new 15 years ago and is very reliable and starts with the first pull.

and I had a 1996 Honda Accord coupe auto EX with over 160,000 miles and it was very reliable, it was a hand me down from my parents and they bought it brand new. All of the Hondas we have owned have been very very reliable to us unlike our suburban that has many many many problems with it and only has 110,000 miles.
