Default Multiple Problems with my Integra

Might as well get some ideas on this, want to figure it out and where to begin.

1991 Integra LS

1. The (automatic) transmission has trouble shifting sometimes. When it's about to change gears, it bogs down, and the car starts slowing down. Then it picks up and gets up to speed and shifts gears, all within a few minutes. The problem is, i can't EVER seem to get it to do it twice in a row, i can't get it to replicate. Just randomly does it.

2. I have a squeal in my drivers side area, coming from the dash/engine bay area. It only does it when the car is actually moving, and gets up to speed. Sitting a stop sign and revving the motor does not do it, only when the wheels are moving. Even then, we jacked it up, took the wheels off, started it and pressed the gas. It BARELY squealed, could barely hear it. It's LOUD on the road. Also on top of that, the speedo needle wiggles like crazy when i'm driving.. so i'm thinking that's the speedometer cable.

3. The engine idles roughly. It sits at about 500 rpm's, and the whole car shakes. This is when i'm stopped or in neutral. I'm thinking i have to mess with the idle air control valve or whatever it is. I'm also missing a bolt on the drivers side mount, i have the bolt but finding a 13mm ID nut seems to be harder than i thought.

4. When i start the car, it revs up, then goes down to 500rpm idle, but sounds like it's about to die every time - but it didn't until today. I started it, revved up, then died. I tried starting it again, and it would crank but not turn over.. acted like a dead battery. BUT all the accessories worked without issue. I tried one more time, didn't work. I let it sit a moment, and it started up without issue. The CEL went on when it died.

5. When i'm driving down the freeway, randomly the CEL kicks on. When i pull over, turn off the engine and turn it back on, the CEL is gone. I'm thinking oxygen sensor. Problem is, i tried jumping that plug to get codes, and nothing came up, the CEL didn't blink once.

The motor has been recently rebuilt, low miles (couldn't tell you exactly, bought it rebuilt) But the head was very clean when i pulled the valve cover off. The timing belt looks brand new.

Also, it does not have a compressor belt, the previous owner said that whenever they put one on, it sheared off. I'm thinking they had the tensioner too tight.. could be related to my squealing issue?

Brand new brakes, KY/GC suspension. Any help appreciated.

ok, got most of the problems sorted out.

only problem i have now, is the car bogs down during acceleration. rpm's slow down, speed slows down, while pedal is at the same exact spot it was a few seconds before. then it'll "catch up" and start accelerating as normal. This used to go away after i reset the ECU, but it does it constantly now. I'm pretty sure this is a sensor, but which one? TPS?

Also, the car idles rough when i sit at a light, i've messed with the idle screw, but didn't really make a difference. probably did it wrong.

motor was rebuilt recently. new plugs, wires, distributor. i'm going to run some fuel cleaner through it tomorrow, and replace the fuel filter.

can anyone help me out with this? I still haven't resolved the problem. and NO i'm not getting a CEL anymore, and not getting codes when i jump it.

i've adjusted the IACV like the helms says, it idles correctly when the IACV is disconnected, but again at a light the engine starts bogging, getting as low as 450rpm. gets really close to stalling, then jumps back up to 500-550. can't get it to 600, the adjustment screw doesn't turn anymore.

Id check plug wires/ plugs.. how old is the distributer itself? usually a mid-rpm stutter is in the ignition. Another thing id check is to make sure the timing belt isnt a tooth off. Even a professional engine builder can have a bad day and mess up a belt on a twin cam motor.

Also may want to check the coolant temp sensor, on some cars when they go bad it intermittently makes the car flood itself b/c it thinks the engine is cold.

i really don't know the age of the distributor. i pulled the cap off, the cap and rotor look brand new. the rotor was a little loose though, could possibly be related.

not disagreeing, but if the belt is off even one tooth wouldn't i have issues constantly? these problems used to die down after i reset the ECU. then it would get progressively worse. I would think something mechanical like the timing belt would happen regardless of what i do electrically (i will check though)

how would i go about checking the coolant temp sensor? Where is it located in the helms?

thanks.

sorry, i missed the part about it being intermitant.. That pretty much rules out the t-belt..

As far as checking the coolant temp sensor, you have to check the resistance with a voltmeter.. Im not sure what the values would be off the top of my head though.

*Completely rules out timing belt. If the belt was off a tooth the car would run like ***** the whole time, you really couldn't drive it, it would **** you off that much!

Did you check the ignition timing? Could be off. Also the suggestion of the coolant temp. sensor is a good one, well worth a look, but one thing you should definately do before you spend a penny more is clean out the throttle body. Take off the air intake and clean where the butterfly seats. Use carb or intake cleaner and a rag, don't be afraid to spray loads in. You can do this with the ebgine running, just don't let your rag get sucked in!! I'd put money on this making an improvement

that's exactly what i'm doing today, haha. I bought a whole LS head for 20 bux ( ) and i'm taking the TPS, IACV and TB off it, cleaning them off and swapping them out.
