Default Frozen Caliper Pin

I just went to change my front pads yesterday to find the top caliper slide pin was frozen. When I tried to force it it just bent. Took the caliper mount off and tried to get the pin out in the vice. The pin was stuck so hard that it sheared off like it was welded in there. Tried to drill the center but It still wont come out. Looks like I need a new caliper mount and slide-pin.

Has anyone eles had this prob before? How can a pin get so well stuck when there is not even a thread - corrosion?

Isn't the top caliper bolt supposed to be the pivot part? I thought you were only supposed to unbolt the bottom one, but maybe I'm thinking of something else.

You can order a new mount from Autozone and it comes with the slider bolts in it, it costs about $30. I had the same thing happen but on both sides.

Both the top and the bottom bolts on the front should come out. About the only way it will seize that bad is if the last time the back pads were replaced somebody didn't lub the pins. These should be lubbed every year or so to help prevent this. When putting in the new caliper make sure that all the pins are lubbed up really well.
