I used to buy and sell cars for a second income. My worst nightmare was buying a ten year old accord and watching the crankshaft pulley accompany me down the road (I watched it roll along the road at nearly the same road speed), as it had separated the belt and any bolting devices, fell off the crankshaft, and started accompanying me down the road. The power steering was the first to go. That was my first clue. I stopped. I picked up the loose pulley from the side of the road. I cursed the guy that sold me the car. I drove the half mile back to a relatives house, then swore I would never buy any car ten years old or more. That was the best decision I ever made.
Take my advice. Don't make a project of that old car. It's not an antique. You can't get cheap parts. There are no aftermarket performance upgrades for that generation that are worth the expense. Whatever you spend will be a waste. It doesn't matter what the initial expense is. The final expense is what matters.

While it would be nice to imagine restoring it and swapping a new engine in, I agree with wanabee and 4bidden. Too much money into something with little support and no antique value. It's still a nice car though. My car's grandfather.

I have a 1 gen accord... just picked it up about a month ago. 41,000 original miles on it body is beautiful except for front right wheel well. Was wondering if you guys, especially JakeIsCool, could help me get this this pristen! Thanks for your help
if anyone is interested, my grandmother in Raleigh, NC has a 1981 Prelude in cherry condition. Its silver and the only thing wrong with it is the A/C doesnt work. Its never been in the rain and it has less than 60,000 original miles on it. Original motor, original everything. PM me for more info if anyone is interested.

it would be a cool restore and as for swaping in a new motor you better be good at wireing because you will have a lot of it
my buddy is doing a gsr swap into a 2gen prelude f@$ken wires every were and i believe that the 1 and 2 gen were both carb so remember that when thinking about fuel injected
hope you do it thought would be cool to see when it is finished
