Default SOHC VTEC Mini-Me Quarter Mile Time..not happy

Ok so last night me and some friends went up to the track, and my bro took his crx si with a mini-me swap. Its a d16a6 block with a Sohc zc head with a ZEX stage 2 cam, si tranny and everything else si, short ram intake, 4-2-1 header, punched out cat, and catback, no a/c, good clutch, full interior..

He only got to run his car twice getting 16.5's both times, and heres the better one..

1/4 mile- 16.515
R/T- .449
60'- 2.681
MPH- 86.64
Tires- 225/35/18

Whats wrong? vtec not working?

2.6 60'.... a little traction goes a long way. Was he spinning too much? The 88 mph trap hints to mid or even low 15s.

the first 60 ft of the track. very important for a good ET. you should be able to knock it down to like a 2.0-2.2 on street tires

i dont understand... its not like he was spinning, his launch control keeps it down to a real quick little spin then after 5mph hes off

bump

obviously if he got a 2.6 60 foot he was spinning very bad or he bogged the living **** out of it.
get some 205/50/15 BFG radials and some more track time, then the times shall get better

what the **** are you talking about, he sent his ecu away and it was reprogramed for vtec, 7k redline, and launch control or whatever you call it you know what im talking about.. where you put ur foot down all the way to full throttle and ur car cuts out at like 4k rpms till you reach 5mph then it disengages so you have a nice launch and dont spin..

is there someone with any good suggestions? he had a good R/T and from there it was pedal to the floor, what went wrong

thats not launch control its full throttle launch...launch control would be alot more complicated... shoot for a 2.2 60 foot and times will improve..i have 18s cuz they came with my car and i cant afford a smaller set but anyways i pulled 2.4 60 foots and you can tell they were killing my times as well...it takes practice dont expect great times the first time out...

yeah we were going to but his tires are so wide 225, we thought they would grip better than stock steelies with like 165's...

I had 19's on my Gti and i cut a 2.1 60' time and ran a 14.3@99 with 3 mods. try riding the clutch. Why the hell do you need launch control that only slow's you down. I have 210whp and 250 wtq and i dont even spin the tires when i launch only chirp going into 2nd gear on street 17" tires with 35psi in them. Just practice launching.

yeah to tell you the truth i think this launch bullshit is slowing him down, because its not like he has the torque really that would make him spin.. i have a LS in my hatch with shitty open diff. and if i feather it right and everything i can take off ok...

the point that im tryin to make is that his block has like 130k in pretty good condition, the head is like brand new with like 35k and it was totaly cleaned up at the machine shop and then the $300 stage 2 cam, the boltons,no leaks, smoke, nothing and he runs a 16.5 and i just found out that my friend Calvin was there the same night with his 90 crx Si and ran a 16.6 and he had a similar 60ft (he has 17's) and tad bit better R/T ... it just kinda disappointed me i gess, i did all his motor work.. o well gess theres always next time..

I have open diff too, i cut 2.1 2.2 60' times pretty easy on 17" street tires. some cheap *** tires too.. The mini me setup doesn't make as much hp as people think. He could of just did a junk yard turbo for 400 bucks and i'd be faster then that.

oh and R/T has nothing to do with a 1/4 mile time. It takes A lot of money to make n/a go fast. I only have 4 mods that cost under 300 bucks and im running mid 13's on my Gti. Thank goodness i didnt get a VR6

running on the track is 10 times easier. on street i can't launch for ****, i just spin on the track its much easier cause of the VHT and the surface.

ok another question, is the full throttle launch thing he has supposed to be for the street? he got it because when he was getting his ecu reprogramed, the guy siad he'd throw it in there for him and it would help him launch better anywhere street/strip

the launch control would probably work better if he was making alot more power than he is. that's about the only time
