im getting some ground control coil overs for my stock crx si. im not planning to go all on the suspension but i was wondering hows the ride gonna be with stock shocks. has anyone tired just coil overs and stock shocks and if so how was the ride quality. im planning to drop it 2.75-3.00 inch all around.

Anything that low will ride like garbage.

agreed, my car is on gc coils dropped just about 2 inches on stock shocks, and the ride is bouncy, so you better plan on getting new shocks.

so then how low is too low for stock shocks. probably in the next few weeks i'll get either some tokico premium performance shocks or some kyb's
when you change to coil overs, they come with harder springs. ex my friend changed to coil overs on his 99' LS, lowered it no more then 3/4" and wail driving down the road the back end of the car looked like it didn't have struts. car only had about 20Kmiles on it. i just talked to him last night and he said that once he changed over to KYB AGX (which I've had very good luck with
) there was zero wheel hop and the cornering was twice as good is before.

what you rode in tonight was 1.5"( or 1.25") drop on AGX's. that is maximum the manufacture says you can lower the car. anymore and it voids the warrenty on them, which they can find out if they wanted to by testing them. Besides if you go too low you don't get as much suspension travel and won't handle as well. The more you lower it on stocks the morebouncy your ride is going to get too. It can make the car unsafe in really bumpy areas. I know a girl that cut her springs and was on a bumpy freeway...she spun out at 70mph trying to change lanes and hit 5 cars. everyone was fine thank god. But try on to go more then 2" a i reccomned 1"-1.25" drop. that is plenty, especially if you get bigger rims.

I would get KYB AGX's, or Tokico HP if you dont have as much cash.

Once you get the GCs installed, try several different ride heights to feel out the ride quality.
I had a stock 94 civic CX, and I added GC coilovers (400f/250r). The ride wasn't bouncy when I got the car back (lowered 1.5"), so I lowered it some more. I went to about -3", and the car still felt solid, and NEVER bounced on funky pavement. Eventually (about 5 years later) a broken LCA bolt led me to get some Koni Yellows. Once I installed them I set them to full stiff to see how harsh the ride was. It was deffinently much stiffer than before, so I set them on full soft to check out the ride difference. Woah! the car was super bouncy on full soft. I felt like I was on a rollar-coaster just driving down the freeway. Now they are set about half, and it's a little stiffer than stock.
The point I'm trying to make, is that some of these Hondas (esspecially the lighter models like the CX) have some extra shock damping to spare. Since your coilovers are adjustable, I think you should experiment. After riding around Vegas for 5 years lowered 3" on stock shocks, I can say it might just work out for you too...
One more tip, once you find a comfortable ride height, reset all your suspension bushings & don't mess with the ride height any more. Your bushings will last much longer if you do.
To reset your bushings:
Jack up car & place on jack stands
Place jack under LCA & jack up until chassis barely lifts off jackstand
Loosen all suspension bolts that go through the center of your bushings
Retighten bolts to proper torque value
Repeat for each corner of vehicle
