okay i posted this in the Tech forum and im sure it will get answered there, however, this IS the most knowlegable forum on the board (now pat yoursef on the back)....and yes i searched.......got 123,456,789,000 results....so just please dont say search...if you have the answer in another thread please direct me there.
the arguement is...".if your check engine light is on..(in this case for the knock sensor) the computer will run in "limp" mode." therefore not running the engine at its full
......is this satement true or false....and could you say why?
the thread is here in the tech forum......

No. Not True. Therefore, False.
*pats himself on back*
I say this b/c it depends on what the CEL code is as to whether you will run in limp mode (which AFAIK is super fuel dumpage mode... is that called closed loop? :shrug on the loop part
.
Evidence:
1. Running without a cat, blown out cat, or a faulty secondary o2 sensor yields a CEL. This does not in any way change how the car runs.
2. If you have the wires crossed on the primary o2 or have a 'bad' primary o2, you will run in some form of limp mode, where the ecu will give way more fuel (presumably to be cautious/prevent a lean condition).
There are tons of CEL codes, some I am sure cause 'limp mode', most do not.
Some say limp mode prevents you from going above 3000rpm, but in my experience (at least with the primary o2 failure), I experience terrible gas mileage (super safety jdm fuel dumpage, maybe retards the timing but i cannot say for sure) but no safe rev limit (i know i let the engine go up to 4+, but nothing crazy, so i dont know for sure).

If there is a limp mode, I think it just depends on which CEL is triggered. Ive had numerous CELs in both my Hondas, and never experienced any noticable drop in power or performance because of it.
