WTF???? EVER HEARD OF THIS????
in my 88 crx I have a 99 ls block w/ 91 ls tranny... and a zc ecu...
dont know if that has to do w/ anything but....
recently my fan and head unit have been acting weird...
for a while it was still kind of working and when it doesnt I would just flip the key to start real quick and it will work... (dont worry the key isn't wired to my starter) but for a while if i had the fan on high or 3-4 the radio would shut off... sometimes if i hit a bump the radio and fan would shut off but quickly turn back on... not losing presets... (tells me Its not the radio's constant wire) now if the key is on on... the radio won't work but if its on ACC it will work... the fan doesn't work anymore... I am not really that good at reading wiring diagrams... but from what i can read in the service manual (tech.hybridgarage.com) the fan and the radio's power doesnt even meet.
I need help in telling me how to fix this problem because I drive long distances every night for work and i need the radio to keep me a wake.
please help asap.

wow, thats really weird, have you checked all you fuses are tight in their position? Checked your grounds. Try grounding the stereo somewhere else on the chassis. Check your fan relay, its one of the black rectangular boxes behind the passenger side headlight.
Hope that helps

Definately sounds like the ground that goes from the valve cover to the chassis. Mine broke a few weeks ago and the car would run fine except the radio would flicker on bumps and the headlights would turn off when I backed up. reconnected the ground wire and everything worked fine afterward.
do you know if the relay is somehow connected to the stereo...

i never had one to begin with... and it was... working fine... till a few months ago...

i have the same problem, and i've been waiting till it gets warmer to pull my dash. it has to be on the positive switched wire (red) because the radio doesn't lose its memory when it turns off.
my wires from that are a little messed up because somebody stole the stereo and cut it after the harness, so i was assuming the break is there, and heat was making the wires move apart? what i should do is pull my dash and drive around till it does it, and when it cuts off take a VOM and trace the wire up to see if it has current farther up or not.

LMAO Never knew this was this common!!
Droppedcrxsi's CRX does the same damn thing, turn on the blower, it shuts off the radio.
I'll fix his CRX by friday so i can post the answer to you all.
Theory is this: The fan is creating a voltage drop on the same 12v+ wire that the radio runs on. The radio can only operate with around 10.5v+ Minimum, so when this voltage drop occurs it says goodnight. The resistance causing the drop is somewhere on the 12v+ wire going to BOTH the Fans & the Radio. Anywhere there is a break in the wire, connection point, there could be your problem. Just not at the radio itself and not at the fan itself, because the break must be on the 12v+ wire they SHARE.
Now go fix it

run a new 15 amp FUSED 12 volt to your radio, disconnect the yellow at the radio itself and tape it off.
problem solved.
as an additional side note:
many aftermarket decks these days are 50 and 52 watt by four anyway, and should have larger then the 20 guage that honda ran 15 years ago anyway to work at its full potential for both the yellow 12 volt constant, and the ground, which when you installed your radio you may have noticed it being thicker then the red accessory wire, theres a reason for this.

2 things...
1 bump...
2... I disconnect the radio and it still has a problem... btw... the fan DOESNT WORK ANYMORE.... AT ALL... so... if it is a 12 - 15 or 20 - 15 wire problem... if the radio is disconnected... the fan should work... or if the fan is turned off then the radio should run...
yet .... yea... does the fan and the radio share the same relay??? if i change the fan relay... ya'll think that it will solve the problem... btw... like I said... there was no problem months before. i guess maybe the bumping broke something loose. either or... i still need to figgir this out. oh... and I did hit a bump so hard it shattered my climate control "cluster" oh and it cracked my tranny and shook me up good.
ever since then i bought the hasport mount kit... but the damage has taken its toll... what if i just buy a whole new wire harness for the dash? how much does that run??? i just want to be well informed

ok, i replaced the wire all the way to the fuse box, then soldered it (don't worry, a part that won't flex)
i hope this stops it, because it appeared one of the factory crimps was corroded. it would make sense thats why. i have an idea...
my car leaks from around the windshield, and gets water under the dash every once in a while, Any other people with this problem have that problem too?

check the key cylinder if it is starting to go bad all this can happen especially when it works w/ the key in acc and not on ignition the way you can tell is to move the cylinder ever so slightly back or forward till it works w/ the key on ignition try it and let me know
