Default Transmission Drain Plug Rounded out....

Being the idiot I am, I rounded the drain plug for the transmission. Instead of looking like a square the side walls are mashed in. I can't get the damn bolt off. Anyone have any methods I could use to get that bolt off

Take a cutting wheel and make a nice thin, but fairly deep slice all the way across. The get a medium sized flat pry bar with a sharpened tip pound that **** in the slot you cut and spin it right out. Works well on most bolts. As long as it isnt in there with 100ft/lbs you should get it right out.

Good Luck I hate stupid things like that which kill your repair times.

if what 4.6 told you doesn't work you could always drill it out. just make sure you drain and flush your tranny well; or else metal shavings could stay in there and do bad things.

if all else fails, go buy a cheap 1/2 inch drive ratchet, and some JB weld. Fill the bolt in with some JB weld and stick the ratchet in and let it dry. then try it Be sure to go to the dealership and buy a new bolt when you eventually get it out.

Grind or file some flats onto opposite sides, so you can get an open ended spanner onto it with a firm tight fit, and a good spray of release oil left for 10 mins before you turn it out.

For around 6 to 15$ depending on what you buy (one-6, set-15) @ Sears Hardware they sell an extractor. Works very good and it's cheap. The other ideas were good too, especially the jb weld. A slot cut in the head and an impact driver(adjust to remove not tighten---lefty loosy, righty tighty-------worked for me several times also...
