How can you tell the "Real" from the "fake"?
Hey whats up guys, i couldnt post this question in the GDD forum, so i posted it here, i just bought a set of Rota Circuit 8s ( 15 inch bronze ) and i was staring at them earlier because i just washed teh car, and i wondered, how can you tell the difference between the c8s and the real deal Mugen Mf8s? thanks guys
"Oh CypressGreenLS" -> Fake
"Oh Dogginator" -> Real
Going CCW around the outside of the rim, the Mugen MF8s will read:
MUGEN
4x100 500KG
JLL VIA 620KG (note: the JLL is scripted together. This is also where the valve stem is located.)
MADE IN JAPAN
FORGED
These rims weigh 11 pounds each. The valve stems are included and are either black (bronze rim) or blue (silver rim) metal. The finish is anodized aluminum, not painted. Therefore, you can feel the minor, radial machining grooves on the shiny outer lip.

That's just the machine finish, which is colored with an anodizing process. Stock 94-95 GS-R wheels aren't anodized, but they have the same machine finish (with clearcoat) on the face of the spokes.
And guess what, my bronze Rota C10's have an anodized lip, too, just like that.

My '97 GSR wheels also have the machined finish, but the clearcoat smooths the texture to the touch. The point is beware of someone selling Mugen MF8 rims that have been painted or clearcoated, as they were most likely damaged.
