Default helicoils or oversized headstuds for a ls block?

im wondering should i get helicoils for my ls block or should i just retap and get bigger head studs? who would make oversized headstuds? arp? i need this because the threads in my ls block were ripped out.. so can anyone gimme some good helicoils or tell me who makes oversized head studs.. i rather go with the head studs thanks guys

From what I have heard Helicolis are ok for most stripped out threads except for something like the head studs. If you were to try to fix the threads with an insert I would try Timeserts instead of the Helicoils. If you go the route of bigger head studs I would think you could get a set of oversized studs from ARP.

How many head bolt holes are stripped? More than half then I would get a new block, this is usually caused by severe overheating and the block is not square anymore.

ooh ok.. it wasnt overheated that much i think it should be good.. im thinking of gettin the oversized head studs.. the middle top one ripped out.. and everything else to the right so just about half.. i really dont have any money for a new ls block.. so im trying to salvage this one

I can help you out with the timeserts if you need them done, let me know and I'll get you a price. But, like Don said, it's not worth the money to repair the block if you hosed too many of the threads.

using heilcoils on my ls vtec and i rev to 8500 all day no problems.....on all head stud holes. any machince shop could do it.

size od stock head stud bolt is 11mm by 1.25 pitch or 1.50, for got. can someone help out.....

wwww.timesert.com they sell a kit just for honda/acura. around 300 bucks. it came will all the taps, drill drivers. super long taps for b series block! part number is PN/7111

i prefer the helicoi/recoill-style with extra long inserts for head bolt hole thread repair. we've been using our kit for years without a single return issue (headstuds are mandatory after repair). no need to counter-sink (which ruins the head-dowel bore), or broach either.

that said, we use timeserts for all other thread repairs. very good quality kits.
