I think thats a matter of opinion and money. I personally like the Z6 and the A6. Decent little engines, lots of available parts, and can be made to put out a healthy amount of HP.

IMO the d16y8 is the best SOHC motor, of course I only say that because it has the best tranny (if u buy a full swap)

Problem is the d16y8 hydro trans does not swap into the ed chassis without heavy modification and fab work.

I've heard the A6 is the best block because it has the strongest rods. Don't quote me on that, but either way the A6 is awesome, just couple that with a Y8 head and you'll have lotsa fun!

In stock form? The Y8.

in stock form with boost or NoS - Z6 or A6.

In BUILT form... probably the Z6.

I thought the A6 rods were more beefy than the z6?

If you are going to boost a stock engine, I would go with the strongest rods, the A6...

Plus, with an A6 you don't have to mess with wiring up VTEC or OBD1...

All the other 90+ A6, Z6 and Y8s have a solid 1 peice aluminum girdle. I think the best motor combo for a build and boosted D16 would be a A6 block and a ported Z6 head (not the Y8 becasue the chamber is small thus it raises the static compression ratio a bit more)

edit: forgot that the 1st gen ZCs have the thickest stock rods on the D16s but they are VERY hard to find

I would have to say the D15B VTEC is the BEST of all SOHC motors IMO.

d16y8 is great if you enjoy spinning main bearings!

my vote is for the d16z6 or d15b vtec.

I'm not 100% sure one this, just what I've heard. But I heard that the D series motors arn't great on boost with a stock bottom end because they have much weaker rods/pistons than most B series.

I'm not 100% sure of that, just one of the things I've heard on HT
