Default ls/vtec.....which ecu?

would a stock gsr ecu be okay?

ls block with b16 head is the set up.

or would a kenji chipped all motor p28 be better and why if you may?

thanks

p30or p72 stock has a high rev limit p13 works also but the rev limit is lower or get a p28 and chippit but if your lookin for a stock ecu swap p30 p72 all the way

B16 Head = P30 or P73 (ITR) or chipped P28 for ITR stats to stay OBD1
GSR Head = P72 (due to the intake manifold, if your not running the GSR head, or manifold no reason to use the ecu)

A stock ECU would be ok for the time being but it would run like ****, same with a pre-programmed ecu because its not your set up you know. To be on the safe side go with Uberdata or Hondata and make your own chip for it.

alright, well i'm asking this for a friend.

he has an ls/vtec set up and is using a stock gsr ecu. he has a b16 head though with the b16 manifold, not a gsr manifold.

i was thinking he would be better off using an all motor kenji chipped ecu rather than the stock gsr ecu. i think using the stock gsr ecu is hurting him IMO.

What's the attraction to the p28 as the "cure all" ecu? Why is that particular ecu the most desirable to chip?

(sorry to threadjack)

You are right, but at the same time unless the motor is built that chip will hurt him too.

my LS/vtec setup is like this

b18a1 block
shot peened LS rods
balanced and micropolished crank
2 layer head gasket
b16a2 head
JDM ITR valves, springs and retainers
JDM ITR cams
stock cam gears
stock intake manifold
stock exhaust manifol

I'm running a Spoon?!? chipped obd1 P72
Vtec at 4500
Rev limit at 8500

and i can rev that high no problem

see i think what is hurting him is the STOCK gsr ecu and he's not using a gsr intake manifold.

i let him borrow my chipped p28 to see if it will make a difference on how his car runs.

the car moves pretty good, but it kinda feels like something is holding it back, just wondering if its the ecu that he's using.

cool...i'm hoping my ecu makes a difference in his car.

if it does, i have an extra chip that i can give him so he can get somebody to install it in his gsr ecu.

Yah, it made a good difference, but killed my gas mileage for the little bit we ran it.
