Uhh yeah, good advice
If you don't want too low and don't want coilovers, I'd suggest some good shocks (KYB AGX or Koni) along with some Eibach Pro-Kit springs.

eibach prokits and tokico illuminas are a good ride. i rode on that for a while and always liked it.
right now im on stock springs and illuminas with a mugen rear 22m sway bar. im pretty happy with it. very comfortable street ride. i decided not to use my prokits because i just dont care to have a lowered ride. i want as much clearance as possible. although i rarely ever scraped with my prokits. but my neighborhood and LA in general has some bad dips and elevation changes.
i might put a DA front sway bar (22mm) to dial out some more body roll.

Eibach Pro-Kit and Tein S.Techs are both pretty mild.
Some Koni Specials ("reds") would work well on a budget.
Upgraded sway bars front and rear would complete the package.
Overall that would make for a decently peforming car; it won't be an autocross machine, but better than stock, very affordable, tasteful aesthetics, and excellent ride quality.
