Oil pressure, Oil temp.

*OR*
If you have a wideband 02 sensor:

Oil pressure, WB02 gauge.

why 50 psi? my motor registers at most 80 psi at speed.

So if his pressure drops below 50, a light turns on.

Helps if you're on track and aren't looking at your gauges when you loose pressure.

so the problem with that is when you are driving around in the pits or on the street, and go to idle, that light comes on

Many things can cause oil pressure to drop unexpectedly. Usually its due to too many lateral G's pulling the oil away from the pickup. Regardless, drops in oil pressure, especially on track, are no good at all.

You can always rig a switch.

nope.

but at a track, turning every which way, causing oil pressure to drop can fack things up....but at the same time, on a straight away will even out....if you have a solid level of oil in the motor it will be fine....right?!??!

No. It only takes one second of oil starvation to completely screw you. If you are mid-corner and oil pressure drops below 35-40psi, you have a very high risk of sending a rod through the side of the block. That is why baffled oil pans are key to the longevity of any track car.

Just like valves don't float and boost spikes never happen.

I'm actually curious to see you explain why "oil starvation is not even an option".

in the cluster you already have oil pressure light...and coolant temp(or at least a light).....i would go with oil pressure so you can watch the actual pressure instead of waiting for the oh **** light...and a/f ratio for ovious reasons

Maybe not for a street car, but if you plan on doing any road racing/auto-x/HPDE events, both oil pressure AND oil temp are critical. WBO2 is not "needed" per se, but it is nice to keep an eye on things just in case.
